Today’s ArtDrop is an oil of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, as ‘Vertumnus’ the Roman god of seasons, fruit trees & gardens. This style of painting was called "scherzo” then, but the artist, Giuseppe Archimboldo, is usually classified as a Mannerist. This editor also clumps him in with Grotesque art.

The image shows a huge relief sculpture of a chimerical guardian goddess called Lamassu. Yes, apparently she is female even though she is clearly depicted as having the body of a BULL with wings.

I installed my show at the Prairie Center for the Arts yesterday. They use a suspension wire hanging system that has seen better days. We felt like we were unknotting xmas lights for the yard. Everything came together.
