Two of the single greatest advances of our lifetimes are mRNA technology and renewable energy tech and somehow the United States is now virulently against both.

How have I not picked up the Dresden files before today? Such a good book series.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

Very good (technical) explainer answering "How has DeepSeek improved the Transformer architecture?". Aimed at readers already familiar with Transformers.

Very recently, I was talking to people about the lack of a good outlet for ebooks, and I cannot tell you how utterly delighted I am by this news. It’s awfully nice to be utterly delighted about ANYTHING at the moment. bookshop.org/ebooks

I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Mass deportation & the Laken Riley Act falsely target immigrants as criminals. Research from the FBI & Brennan Center proves U.S. citizens are far more likely to commit crimes, including violent ones. Immigrants strengthen communities & lower crime rates—don’t let fear fuel injustice.

I love sci fi books! Devoured the Three Body Problem, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, and Project Hail Mary. Left no crumbs

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
The Mystery of Food Deserts
They didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened.
