I mean, there absolutely were people in the room (read: Rik Alvarez) who really *did* want all that material to fit together and tried to make it do so whenever they had the opportunity to directly influence stories, but the crushing weight of reality generally put a stop to that as a grand plan.

The Binder had it that Unicron was out there slumbering in space, and that a final war against him would be the final part of an epic three-phase narrative! And then Prime was like "actually we're gonna say he's inside Earth, and that's going to be our season 1 finale."

Everyone is always saying that Skybound needs to get IDW TF back in print, and they're not wrong, but it's upsetting to imagine how fucking bad the curation would inevitably be if and when it happened.

Not to be hyperbolic but I think it should probably be illegal for comic book publishers to embark upon expensive crowdfunded "definitive collection"-type releases without engaging some kind of Consulting Nerd who actually knows anything about the material they're trying to definitively collect.

To be fair, that's not a million miles from original Rescue Bots being three kindly nerds and one surly asshole who clearly wishes he could say "fuck" on this children's cartoon.
