Interested in far too many things. Ones I mainly pay attention to here: urbanism, sustainability, ecology (rewilding), sustainable transport, (geo)politics, football, geography.

Going to post some of the wildlife I’m spotting while spending a month in rural burgundy. First up, some #Lepidoptera.

Absolutely buzzing to see numerous swifts around the roofs of my new road. Looks like they’re nesting just a couple of doors down. Magnificent birds.

Very interesting from @utg-uk.bsky.social's 'Inside Track' report. The trend that GVA/capita rises with city pop. does not apply in the UK (except for London).

Wasting agglomeration effects by underinvesting in public transport and planning around cars.

It’s VERY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Bike-lanes mean business.

If only there was an urban region in the UK with a pop of ~3m, extremely wide roads, huge car-dependency issues, and no metro. Such a place would be ideal for implementing this!
Bus rapid transit is an amazing thing:
Very nice bus stops at night in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Metrobus is a very frequent bus service (~ every 5 minutes!) with bus lanes.

En 2011, contaban con 1 corredor. Ya hoy tienen 8 corredores.

En San Juan 🇵🇷 solamente contamos con la Avenida Ponce de León - Calle del Tren. ¿Dónde más faltan?

Spot on. Comprehensive pedestrianisation should be far higher up the agenda in our cities than it is. Nearly wherever cars go, cities get worse. Nearly wherever they’re removed, those urban spaces flourish.
Before & After: I don’t think people realize the extent to which parked cars degrade public space.

First hour on Bluesky, and I've stumbled across #fungifriends. Excellent start, and a good excuse to post some photos from a recent walk in the woods.

If anybody can ID any of them - please let me know!
