I guess this has probably already gone viral somewhere but I am simply dying at this picture of a bear that looks like it hired a photographer to do a glamour shoot

I'm delighted to share that, together with @crowbrain.bsky.social our paper on time estimation in crows is now published in @natcomms.nature.com

We found that crows not only keep track of time, but individual neurons prefer different time durations 🐦⏱️🧠

Check it out:

A neuronal correlate for time interval estimation in the crow’s telencephalon - Nature Communications
It is unknown how birds estimate time using brains organized differently from mammals. Here, the authors show that neurons in the crow NCL encode duration categories, supporting abstract, cue-independ...

Do you ever wish you could just use python to pull together the files and code for running FSL's randomise? Me too! I made this: github.com/jmumford/ran... It will even replace the numbers in the file outputs with contrast names of your choosing (and replace corrp with 1minusp).

Woo! Excited to see this in preprint form! cheers.
New preprint (osf.io/preprints/ps...) evaluating how shared control environments, like partially automated cars, influence human cognitive control. In short, response inhibition was impaired in multiple ways when subjects were told that an AI will usually stop for them, but infrequently it doesn’t.

Now out in Psychological Review, with Andre Beukers, Maia Hamin, and Jon Cohen: our model of how episodic memory can support performance on the n-back task, "When working memory may just be working, not memory". Free version here: osf.io/preprints/ps... #psychscisky #neuroskyence

I can never think of a good answer to the “what’s a piece of advice…” question, but I thought of one (& will promptly forget it): when someone gives a valid critique of your work, ask them to join your team, invite them for a talk, buy them a cake, do whatever you can to foster that relationship.

New paper alert! I offer some (idiosyncratic) musings on the conflict-control and task-switching literatures in this Perspective: "Principles of cognitive control over task focus and task switching". Hope it's useful/stimulating to some folks...
