Great news! New fact sheet posted by @WhiteHouse highlights @NWS employees as an example of a public safety exemption, where filling vacancies/creating new ones will not need approval from agency leadership. I’m assuming we will be receiving more guidance on this soon.

Watching this nomination hearing has really made me realize the impact social media has had on spreading misinformation about weather to those leading out country. While their thoughts and questions are sincere, they truly don’t understand what the NWS does vs what EMs do.

Husband and I are doing long-term planning in case we have a kid soon. How do career couples, without nearby family, actually make it work? 6 weeks maternity (2 weeks paternity) and 12 week unpaid FMLA… then what after? Do you bargain work for alternative hours? Find childcare for a 4ish month old?

Big news: Neil Jacobs (NOAA Administrator/Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere nominee) officially has his nomination hearing on July 9th. Based on past nominations, hearing>cloture>confirmation is about a 1-1.5 month process.

Not knowing if I’ll have a job in <2 months is really weighing on me. I have faith something will happen and it will all be okay, but the worry remains. My husband and I were really hoping to settle here.

From Paul Dabbar’s [Deputy Commerce Secretary nominee] nomination hearing this morning, there was an expression of bipartisan support for NOAA/NWS with a lot of tough questions. An important point comes from Ted Cruz (R-Tex), outlined in the thread below.

New action shots! We have roughly six Radar & Applications Course (RAC) workshops each year, and these are the weeks I look forward to most. Teaching brand new, bright NWS meteorologists hungry for knowledge and guiding their skills toward warning ops is a dream.

A component of the fire triangle is #weather, and you can bet that the @nws.noaa.gov is providing vital information to local #firefighters & those in the #Texas A&M Forest Service who are dealing with extremely critical fire weather conditions. #FireWeather

A recurring nightmare: overnight severe threat with QLCS tornado potential. I do not sleep on nights like this.

My chest hurts so bad tonight. I deeply fear what tomorrow will bring. Today was bad enough, I don’t even know what to do if more layoffs occur tomorrow.

My husband: “No eating out this week, let’s save money!”
Also, my husband: “We should drive to Memphis, TN this weekend so I can use my gift card at the fancy Bass Pro Shops…”

On June 25th, 2024 Whitman, NE witnessed and was victim to the #tornado of the year. It was the strongest tornado on record in that county, and was unwarned for most of its life. I was the only person to see the storm from the west, and another chaser saw from the east. #wxsky #photography
