This is what we were waiting for. A direct comparison between apixaban and rivaroxaban for the treatment of acute VTE. Apixaban reduces bleeding risk in the first 3 months by >50%!

Practice changing investigator-initiated RCT.

The U.S. is letting people report Canadian doctors like they’re criminals — you know, for doing their jobs. And no one’s really talking about it yet.

Oh, and apparently our kids' mattresses are full of banned chemicals. Cool cool.

“The cuts today at CDC targeted programs that address all aspects of American lives,” a source at the CDC tells WIRED. “This will lead to worse health outcomes, greater risks to the US public, and will contribute to the decline in US life expectancy."

Hi nerds, our newsletter is back!

This week’s top story isn’t about vaccines or viruses. It’s birth control.

Gynecologists say online disinformation is influencing their patients to reject established methods of contraception.

But is it just another viral trend, or something else?
The war on birth control isn't a trend. It’s a campaign
A wave of disinformation amplified by tech billionaires is turning patients away from birth control.

3 points on this because there's renewed interest in domestic production of vaccines in Canada in light of tariffs & general global health chaos:
1. Local production (globally) is needed for security of supply of some vaccines
2. Not all local production will be helpful
3. Choose products carefully
Measles vaccination campaigns are large undertakings, but:
1. The vaccine is very safe and well-studied
2. The vaccine is very effective in real-world conditions
3. The measles vaccine market globally is strong - vaccines are generally affordable, accessible, and have multiple suppliers globally.

This is exactly the kind of medicine for which there is a strong argument for the role of a public manufacturer - market size is too small to sustain the interest of quality assured manufacturers in the private sector, leading to product shortages and uncertainty compromising patient care.
