When you start thinking about card design there is nothing that can stop you from thinking about terrible designs when trying to come up with good ones. This may have the most insane and frustrating play patterns I have ever thought of.

I have been trying to figure out why I don't love modern, and I think it's because the interaction like FoN or Subtlety isn't always good enough to prevent the highest of rolls. This fixes FoW's problem of protecting you combo (probs too good tho)

Final Fantasy hasn't really inspired me to create cards so I went back to Ice Age. This can pay for cumulative upkeep costs that won't age horribly like Adarkar Unicorn. Card probably isn't very good but it is at least a thing to consider.

I saw Death Pit Offering and thought "Wow, this is really cool, just a bit too extreme" so I wanted to make a modern day version of the card. Black doesn't get generic anthems anymore but Zombies do all the time.

Prowess is a crazy keyword. Similar to Infect, Prowess is strongest on the cheapest cards and bigger creatures have to contend with creatures that are always larger. This is a more expensive prowess creature that you can safely tap out for.

TDM has been a really good limited format, but in limited flurry can be really tricky to trigger multiple times without card draw or flashback. Self bouncing permanents with a bit of their own value might let you live that limited dream more.

TDM prerelease was a lot of fun. I picked and played Abzan and while I had some cards with counter synergies, at least in my pool it didn't feel like there were too many cheap ways for counters. This enables that while letting mobilize still clock you freely.

I like Backup a lot! It works great with attack and damage based abilities does due to the pseudo haste that comes with it. I played a lot with mobilize and giving the tokens menace or stats but that felt a bit too dangerous.

Went to a Pokemon TCG prerelease today. I just love learning and experiencing card games. The difference between limited and constructed pokemon is like the difference between magic limited and legacy cradle control starting turn 4.

I was thinking about giving up on this, for some of the challenges I might to a thread about, but today my mom asked me "Are you still doing the card a day thing?" When I told her mostly, she said "You should, that's really cool." Ty Mom

Compared to other trading card games, baubles are very unique to magic. This is in part due to the color and land systems work in the game, but I also think that magic does a good job of just having useful things lying around if you want them

Kinda a clone, kinda a recruiter, kinda dead in EDH. By definition a win-more card, but win-more cards are awesome because if a little bit of winning is fun, a lot bit of winning has to be more fun!

Since searching up for cards with the oracle text "excess" on Scryfall, I have been finding other words that are only on unique cards, including the words "ignore", "continuously", and "non-wall". Ever look at the card Rocket Launcher?

I have really been liking how discard spells have been exploring new space in standard, most notably by the carve outs like with Dreams of Steel and Oil and Duress both being legal and good. Wish there was one that hit Temp Lockdown tho.

Creativity is hard to keep a hold of and hard to keep focused on the same task. If you can't come up with a card for that day, it might be because you came up with a good deck idea instead. Must've been using all of my brain at the RCQ

Use your imagination that this post came out yesterday. I like exploring Scryfall and read a lot of weird cards that use the word "excess" when I had this card idea. Didn't end up using the word itself, landed among the stars today.

A rather simple but mostly unexplored space in magic to create stuff for your opponent, with the bet being that your deck can leverage it more. The Guy Knower could be a nuts and bolts 2-drop for sets with Populate and Celebration for example

Couldn't come up with something reasonable today so I went back on an old idea I had. The blue Doomsday, when you discover everything, everything changes.

Magic used to love their miserable designs where you get to play the game less. This one I think could still be printed because it is an opt-in experience, but maybe we don't need to give any more reasons for people to wall up and stall up.

The storm mechanic has many real issues, but it is so alluring to try to design new cards for. Storming off is exciting, and when the storm card isn't winning you the game right then like with galvanic relay, it feels awesome to cast.

I know there isn't Backup in OTJ and there weren't Mounts for MOM but this is a cool mechanical mashup. Even just subtle stat changes so the Backup creature can't saddle the other creature on its own makes this a cool space to work in.

In the lore, there are 4 Titans of Theros, and so far we only have three. Them casting iconic spells is a fun part about them, and Lingering Souls fits that bill. This might be too powerful in respect towards the modern Ketramose deck though.

I like watching old Legacy matches, and the interaction between Mangara and Karakas used to be a really cool staple of Death and Taxes. Thought it would be fun to give him some new time bending abilities and a way to gain haste.

Clear callback to an awesome design that reads insane to anyone who hasn't tried to make it work. This isn't the infinite value engine of the original, but hopefully you can win back some tempo quicker with the free activations.
