That's roughly 1-2 hrs of wealth accumulation for Mr. Bezos. Certainly better than nothing, but also he can stick $11.25 million up his fucking ass.

agreed, fact-checking by itself is easily weaponized or neutered, and i'm skeptical about how practically we can really legislate the issue. but stating as fact that obvious and self-serving lies are not acceptable in our government is a very good start.

District court judges are engaged in a bipartisan project of [forgive me] actually calling balls and strikes. Republican circuit judges are largely going full-tilt partisan.

They also killed of a ton of other similarly good teams. 18F was GSA's digital services agency, destroyed by many of the same people. Dozens (hundreds?) of individual agency teams are gone at DOGE's hand. But USDS was perverted and killed from the inside and it hurt to see.

DOGE took over the US Digital Service as its parasite host, using its statutory authority and then firing its staff. USDS weren't dedicated to cost saving per se, but basically everything they did saved significant money vs. the status quo (to say nothing of the improvement to public services)

idk i'm a layperson here but research and discourse on UPFs seems hugely lacking in rigor. am I missing something? Like wtf is the proposed mechanism for processing (in a general sense) being a meaningful factor in health outcomes? what even motivates that question?

exactly, not everything needs to be deeply error handled. completely blanketing code with unwrap() can be irresponsible, but handling every Option is often pointless and moves attention away from bigger actual problems.

core strength won’t hurt but it’s not super demanding. certainly not something you have to work up to enjoy.

day rentals are usually easy to find, id see you what like first

The post-new deal state was built surprisingly quickly. To pick a more recent example, CFPB was operational from scratch in about a year.

Building administrative capacity is something we’ve kinda figured out, it’s building and maintaining the political support for it that’s harder.

The Library of Congress has the best single authority on copyright status in the US, and it's not able to establish rights status or ownership for a huge portion of its own holdings.

Copyright is not a contract its a half-remembered handshake agreement.
