The first five minutes of Season 3 of The White Lotus are a brilliant example of how to turn a format on its head. In the first two, the morbid pleasure of guessing which character might die was key to the show’s success - this time round, we’re afraid for who it might be.

Does anyone know if BABY by Marcelo Caetano has got UK distribution? It was one of my favourite films of LFF and I’d love to see it again.

My number one Nosferatu opinion is that Aaron Taylor Johnson is a character actor stuck in the body of a himbo, and he was perfect in this role.

Check out Picturehouse Central playing NOSFERATU not only in 35mm but also in 4D, because the screen was so cold that I felt like I, too, was trapped in an icy castle high in the Carpathian Mountains.

They’re giving Luigi the Gracie Lou treatment 👀

Sad to hear of the passing of Marisa Paredes, whose performances left such a huge mark on me when I was falling in love with cinema.

And Ralph Fiennes, who plays Conclave, he gave everything

I’m a big Nicole Kidman fan, but everyone who said this is her best work to date needs to watch Dogville, Birth, The Others, Eyes Wide Shut, To Die For. It’s not even her best performance of ‘woman has emotional realisation about her love for her husband in a New York theatre’.

Frociaggine confirmed!

Heading to a second viewing of CONCLAVE, aka the queer reading.

Hooked on SAY NOTHING. Brilliant writing, and powerful, nuanced performance from a perfectly-cast ensemble. This is proper, complex, knotty, political, intelligent storytelling. A real contender for show of the year!

I think it’s also worth saying, as someone who reads so many pitch decks, I find AI generated images a massive turn off. The purpose of stills in a deck is to communicate a visual and cinematographic world in which the projects sits. AI slop doesn’t achieve this, because it doesn’t look like film.
Love it or hate it AI is here to stay & we'll all be using it daily before too long.

This is a very interesting article looking at how Gen AI is and can be used for pitching drama - from a simple outline all the way up to pitch decks and sizzle reels. Thoughts?

I have a lot of time for BIFA, but this is so disrespectful. Excluding craft wins from the awards ceremony and relegating them to an instagram video is already bleak, but using their wins to do promo for the host’s new movie is abjectly fucking miserable.

I’m sorry, if I see one more ‘Kamala is Elphaba’ analogy, I’m simply going to lock myself into whatever hotel room they were doing those press junkets in and succumb to the gas leak that was evidently occurring.

Here’s my hot filmmaking take for today

If you ONLY invest in debut or emerging filmmakers, it does not magically will a film industry into place that will allow those filmmakers to make their 2nd, or 3rd films 🧵

Post your favourite movie poster of all time.

Can’t choose one, so here’s a selection of a few 👇

Starting with the 1977 Japanese release of THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (Orson Welles, 1947).

The only thing I got from the Gifted & Talented scheme was standing tickets for a matinee production at the Globe during a heatwave, which was punctuated by the intermittent THUNK of heads hitting the ground as people fainted. Anyone who claims it promised them a lifetime of success is a liar.
