That's what I thought but I looked it up today. It's actually jerry-built and jury rigged but they kind of merged and jerry-built turned into jerry-rigged. I guess the etymology of jerry-built is unclear but it doesn't refer to Germans. And honestly, they didn't have a reputation for building junk.

I've heard them both and people use them interchangeably so I looked it up to find out which is correct only to find they are both correct but they don't mean the same thing and they have different etymologies. Live and learn. :)

I'm not sure where you are but here the playgrounds are much safer than when I was a kid. That might account for fewer broken bones. Bouncy kids, bouncy playgrounds.
