We lived, became friends, & met IRL.
Once upon a time when Twitter was Twitter & the lit community was mostly in one place, @jacgorelick.bsky.social replied to a post about my cancer diagnosis & said I could dm with questions or to vent. Nearly 4 years later, we lived & met IRL. So grateful 💖

I decided to start a Substack on everyday people doing good in the world and as I write up my first interview I'm so grateful for this quiet act of self-care.

I roam around my house, I sigh, and I mutter, "It's ok."
It's who I am now I guess.

I'm not sure what to say to any of it, so here's a picture of my dog Hope, who we adopted in 2020 during what we thought was the All Is Lost moment in this story but turned out to just be world-building for 2025.

I've had the strangest most heartbreaking week in which I reconnected with my very long-lost brother and filed for my estranged father’s death certificate on my deceased mother’s birthday. Life is wild.

Everything is so dark and heavy but I just had my last infusion after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. I won’t miss the infusion center, but I’m grateful for the kind nurses who took such good care of me. Onward. 🩵

Absolutely gutted Tahlequah the orca lost her calf...again and is carrying her around refusing to let go. Nature is a beast.

I have the most brilliant idea for a business that would fail but be beloved by a few: a book and film theater, where you buy a book and a movie screening; you’d get the book a month ahead of then arrive at the screening, watch the film, and follow with drinks, food, and book and film discussion

Super grateful for the airbnb lister who charged a minimal cleaning fee and reasonable rate so I could book myself a three night writing retreat to kick off the new year 🤩

Don't give up! Your story matters.

In 2024, "267 authors got memoir deals as of December 15th. This is 85% higher than 20 years ago... the past several years have been consistently high, with most years between 279 and 322 memoirs sold annually." #memoir #writingcommunity

Fear Not: Publishing is Alive and Well — Yes, Even for Memoir and Literary Fiction
By Peter Mountford As 2024 draws to a close, I’ve been sifting through the stats on Publisher’s Marketplace for the year and am pleasantly surprised that SO MANY books have been accepted for public…

Relatable words from @amygcb.bsky.social about mothering and writing (or not).

"Why do I tell you this protracted story? Because THIS is also how I also did “writing” in those years when my kids were younger."
In a holiday (and parenting) full circle moment, my youngest kid returned from college hungry for hot dogs. There's Lululemon now and nothing that was boiled in a school lunchroom.
