And yet republicans are actively defunding the task forces that investigate human trafficking so they can funnel more money into the military & harassing immigrants 🧐
They’re also working to dismantle child marriage AND labor laws - which are effective safety measures against trafficking.

I used to volunteer for a group called The Polaris Project that fights human trafficking (back before I had to work 2 full time jobs). I never got used to people getting mad at us at fundraisers… for talking about fighting human trafficking.

Also people aren’t raised with the emotional tools to discuss these topics. When folks get uncomfortable they just get mad at the person speaking the truth. It’s easier to blame the person talking about the issue for “making me uncomfortable” than it is to reevaluate your view of society. 😵‍💫

The irony is that this situation only exists because our culture is built around not believing victims.
If literally anyone believed the first victim to speak up, we wouldn’t still be talking about this
