The Bon Vivant Martini calls for a tobacco liqueur, and this gives me a chance to get out the Perique.

A Nick and Nora glass on a not very classy cork coaster on a not very classy side table. But in the glass? A Bon Vivant Martini, made with vodka, Perique tobacco liqueur, Cocchi Bianco and a dash of barrel aged whiskey bitters (because I didn't have any tea bitters). Nice sup.

This evening I'm experimenting with two versions of a Bensonhurst, which is a variation on the Brooklyn theme, which is itself a variation on the Manhattan. Many layers deep.

I bought this as a gift to myself and it's going everywhere with me at the moment, because it's such a delight.

It even came on an overnight stay in the Midlands for work, though it's the weight of a couple of house bricks.

Worth leaving my boots at home.

The good people at Diffords note today is the anniversary of the first Oktoberfest (1810, apparently), so cocktail of the day is a Munich Negroni Western Style, which sounds like it should be wrong in countless ways, but is fact is a subtly distinctive, nutty variation!
