Economisty types are gonna do economisting, but sincerely - fuck the economic case! These are children. Immiserating half a million children just because you can was utterly toxic policy from the Tories and it’s shameful that it wasn’t at the top of the list of things Labour wanted to scrap.

Me: How old is that guy? He looks about 45 but I think he must be about 22. Why?

Me: Lead in the petrol maybe.
18yo: Asbestos in the ceilings.

Just back from an evening at the Festival Hall listening to the shortlisted Booker authors reading from and discussing their books.

Some years I have a clear sense of who should win (and occasionally I’m right) but this year, I didn’t get that standout feeling.

I haven’t ready any of them yet.

I stocked up on good dark chocolate for cooking yesterday, and the four bars I bought, which came to 700g total weight, were £16!

Because they weren’t tucked in with any other groceries I really noticed the price hike.

Ouch!

This is what climate change does to growing conditions / prices.

My Dad retired at 62 and tho’ he’s pretty poorly now, he’s 85 and enjoyed 20 years of very active retirement on a good pension.

So when I see people dying at 68, knowing my retirement age is 67, I wonder whether I shouldn’t just walk away now and have a fighting chance of getting a decade?

As propaganda goes, this is pretty comical.
Attention,United Kingdom!

Russian propagandists claim that the British royal family is allegedly preparing a terrorist attack, connected with the Zaporizhzhia NPP

"The Crown -not the prime ministers, who change like socks -is our main enemy. They make mischief in a subtle and targeted way," they say

This needs to be a thing, yes. OpenAI has a literal body count at this point
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

PSA: Hello fellow humans. Talk to your children/the children in your educational setting, and - above all - listen to them, to be aware of signs of distress. Do not delegate this function to an AI.
Schools are using AI to keep students safe from… AI. As chatbots enter classrooms, companies are selling software to monitor student conversations and flag signs of distress.
Chatbots Are Sparking a New Era of Student Surveillance
As US educators embrace AI in the classroom, firms are selling software to flag mentions of self-harm, raising concerns over privacy and control.

I really liked this one, but I didn't guess it was the priciest!
Let's move up to the final price tier: designer luxury. This Cucinelli overcoat retails for $11,200. The coat was fully cut-and-sewn in Italy using a 60/20 cashmere-silk blend. It's half-lined, which means the interior seams have to be more neatly finished.

I stand by my view that this is an ugly coat.
Let's move up in price. This Whitcomb & Shaftsbury overcoat is £4,700 (or $6,185). For that, you get a fully bespoke, handmade overcoat made from 30oz fabric (beefy!)

This coat takes 70 - 80 hours to make. W&S takes more time on perfecting the pattern than H&M spends on making their entire coat.
