It’s unclear at this time if the Smart case was affected by the reported error or how it may impact Paul Flores’ murder conviction.

you aren't actually preventing it. I will repeat that: passing a law prohibiting something does NOT prevent it from happening. It simply means that a prosecutor or law enforcement officer MAY, but is not required to, leverage the power of the government to put you in a cage for doing it.

We live in a country where restaurants trash thousands of pounds of perfectly good food every day while huge swathes of people live in food deserts and I'm supposed to get upset if someone gets a parking spot they aren't entitled to for 20 minutes? I don't have few enough problems to care about it

If you are married to a US spouse, your temporary visa (usually for 3 months) will lapse before your case is processed. The government allowed you could stay in the US while awaiting case processing. Now the Trump admin is saying that is a visa overstay and arresting the spouses.
