Coming forthwith. Well no, because that means "without delay", and I will probably drag my feet on filling this out. Coming in the not-so-distant-future (?).
Today, reading Trump trying to brag at having to take his THIRD cognitive exam and play that off as a heroic voluntary action on his part - not the result of increasing worry about his abilities - is just tiresome and upsetting.

Unpopular opinion: the very best adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" is the one starring Alastair Sims. Oh, Michael Caine and the Muppets are wonderful, I'm not saying otherwise. But the Alastair Sims version is overlooked and underappreciated, and gets better every time I see it.

Look I'm mad too but confused about why people are talking like there was ever the slightest possibility that Dems could hold out long enough to get the GOP to cancel those healthcare cuts.

That was never going to happen. They didn't have the power to get that. Taking the first offer is dumb tho.

And we all have EVERY reason to believe everything this honest, upstanding, goodhearted man tells us.

Unfortunately, yes. This.
I know a LOT of feds and contractors. Putting them - as well as other people directly impacted by this shutdown - through all of this for NOTHING is very bad optics.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Hi there I just want to say that I hope everyone who is against Senate Dems caving will also go donate RIGHT NOW to a foodbank or grocery store gift cards or SOMETHING for feds and contractors because this is a LONG FUCKING TIME to go without getting paid so please just make sure you're helping them

I'm just curious since Joe Walsh became a Democrat and all, has he ever just said "My own actions led to this and I'm sorry"? Or did he just switch over like a rat jumping from a ship? Look I'm glad for everyone who refuses to back the dictatorship but Walsh (& Conway & others) helped build this.

The text in the post is FAR too kind, suggesting that this happened because of the "strain of the presidency on the 79-year-old" like a good night's sleep might change things.

They even point out that he likes to call Biden "Sleepy Joe" but fail to actually mention BIDEN NEVER DID THIS. WaPo sucks.

This is fucking FANTASTIC - Ghazala is great. I've been following her since she ran for VA Senate in 2019. She's marvelous and I'm so happy about her victory!
Ghazala Hashmi (D) has been elected Lt. Governor of Virginia, the first Muslim American to be elected to any statewide office at lieutenant governor and above.

I want to tune in on election results the way I usually do, the way I have since 2017, but I just tried and got the shakes and nausea. I'm still traumatized from last year (when I threw up the day after Election Day) and didn't realize it. Hope I'll be better by midterms. Guess it depends on tonight

All the people who are like "Mamdani is proof that Dems need to go hard left!" don't really understand local politics. I'm glad actual advisors do.
"Do you think the Democratic Party should follow the lead of Abigail Spanberger or Zohran Mamdani?"

What if I told you that Democrats have different audiences in different parts of the country which require different messaging and it's okay for Democrats to tailor their messaging to beat the GOP?

I dunno why the "thank you for your attn to this matter" line bugs me so much. Maybe because it's so enormously stupid that I can't figure out if he actually understands how to use it. Does it autogenerate? Did someone tell him he needs to be more relatable so he added this as a signature? WTF?
This is the president of the United States taking a break from gold-and-marble interior renovations to say he’ll defy a court order to feed hungry Americans.

Nero would be proud.

Dick Cheney was a true, literal villain. There are many people in US history who shamefully made America better by making the rest of the world worse; Cheney took it to the next level and made America worse along with the everyone else. His legacy is as an architect of destruction.

Some might want to correct the name in Betty's post but I actually think it's incredibly appropriate to get Schneider's first name wrong, because he really is a nobody, worth nothing. :)
When idiot Ron Schneider was born in 1963, the infant mortality rate was 29/1,000. It is now close to 5/1,000. So, no, children were NOT healthier when he was a kid. And he was, clearly, dropped on his head.

This is Iliamna. She made a new best friend, who happens to be a balloon. Really thought they would have more time together. 12/10 (TT: andreal.corbin)

I'm sorry, but the fact that this is a real person's head is throwing me off. If I don't look directly at the picture it looks exactly like a caricature of someone where their head has been drawn as a balloon.

I mean are they trying to imply that Antifa is restricting people or arresting them somehow? I mean this is military escalation in response to a political stance conservatives don't like, not to violence. Wonder if Miranda Devine will miss her freedoms once she's lost them, or if it'll be "worth it"
So the argument for sending US troops into cities to be used against Americans is that Antifa has apparently taken over our cities and the troops have to battle them.

Meanwhile, you think Dems are going to come out looking like heroes in a shut down? HHS sent out THE most partisan email I've ever seen (and there've been plenty) today telling employees that even though President Trump is strongly against a shutdown, Democrats won't support the CR because of (cont)

Listen, I really can't work with the fact that the same people who were loudly saying "Federal workers are important" and "We support feds" and protesting their firings are now like "Well they're just going to take it for the rest of us" and INSISTING on a shutdown. And I mean ppl in and out of govt

Big part of me wondering if this was an actual accident
The Wall Street Journal is now walking back its earlier reporting that "transgender ideology" messages were found on the shooter's ammunition.

But it's too late. That story is all around the country and the world. Most who have read it will not see the update.

Thanks, WSJ.

I think ProPublica already knows this, but it was obvious from day 1 to anyone paying attention that RFK has "preconceived notions" and that he's linking autism to vaccines. All this "initiative' nonsense is going to be a lot of wasted money b/c its focus is on trying to find proof, not reasons.

Overheard: NIH/HHS is sending Office of the President materials on dementia (by request)

Unconfirmed. Anyone have any further info?

It's not like no one has said that raw milk can cause bacterial infections. It's not even like only a FEW people have said that. It's more like a ton of people are saying it, and a minority of ppl who don't realize that they don't understand how bacteria work are flipping off the ppl who do.

He is absolutely going to run for President in 2028. I have mixed feelings about it. For a variety of reasons he very likely won't be my first choice (and probably not my second, but honestly it depends on who runs), but I mean, if he's the actual nominee of course I'll support him. Duh.
@gavinnewsom.bsky.social: "Wake the fuck up to what's going on in this country... We're going to put everything on the damn line... People haven't given up yet. We're going to do this. We can win this November. We can win next November, and then we can get this country back on track."
