Mundane thoughts about things I encounter. A lot of: Edinburgh, rugby, and hanging out with my child. Silently reading your political takes.
Get the Trainspotting meme ready.

The list of "11 other times Edinburgh Live said locals were ‘all saying the same thing’:" in @edinburghminute.bsky.social is excellent

FOUR Edinburgh players and one former Edinburgh player in the Lions 23.*

I went up Arthur's Seat this morning - treated to a stunning view for all the fans of rain and cloud. I know it's not a new take, but it's genuinely incredible to have this in the middle of our city.

Great new addition (looks like something to support building work?) taking up 80% of the path outside the Omni Centre. Good job that area never gets busy and isn't beside a massive theatre or anything.

One of the few times there is news that I'd actually categorise as "Breaking News" notification worthy, and they fuck it.

There's a real DIY feel to Edinburgh just assigning some random bits of ground as "standing sections" for the Bath game this weekend, and I'm here for it.

Lovely to run past the famous Canal to Water of Leith waterfall earlier.

I assume it's a deliberate overflow or another intentional drainage system?

It took me far too long to learn that you can get onto the Water of Leith Walkway from the canal. If you're a fan of a walk/run/cycle beside water, this is my new favourite route (ft fallen down tree)

I'm sort of both impressed and concerned that the official solution to a Yoto Mini battery fault is me performing some mild electronics on my kitchen counter to install a new battery

Today was the last of a few days at home over New Year, so one of my oldest friends took me for a run.
It "felt like" -7, I had to leave the house at 7:50, we had to walk a kilometre over ice and through water running along the road, and it's really exacerbated my cold.
But, 10/10 worth it.

Then the grounding moment my daughter got the chance to colour it in.

My 2024 highlight remains nailing the t-shirt tracing at a kids holiday club in Majorca. The envy on the other dads' faces. The nod of approval from the children's entertainers. The absolute lack of enthusiasm from my own family, including the 3 year old recipient.

Film 2. Risk that this one's supporting cast is too high profile for the 'budget Christmas film' genre (Darryl from the US Office! Boyle from Brooklyn 99!) but so far they're pulling it off. A break from the "person returns to home town" format, but still knows its place in the world.

Tonight I watch my first film of 2024. We're going straight to the top, this year's offering from the Queen of Christmas Films.
