I only took this photo at night because of timing constraints, but editing it has definitely reawakened my joy in night and low-light photography. You can play with colour and mood in unique ways.

Violent rhetoric is not only strongly embedded in our cultural expression, it is an extremely well-known phenomenon that people consistently rate violent rhetoric used against them and people they like as significantly more severe than violent rhetoric used against people they dislike.

It really looks like the guy just appointed the first non-blacklisted person who walked up to him.

I’m fond of Terry Pratchett’s “first available surface filing method”.

All right, I've got it everybody: if it's AI, it's bad; if there's AI doing something good; it's not AI.

country violently allergic to acknowledging the existence of policy trade-offs, and steadfastly convinced that this allergy is virtuous and even a skeptical rejection of the powers that be instead of a prolonged temper tantrum by the most privileged people to ever live on this earth

@dave.tf and I talked a few years ago about what we'd want in a V2, and he wrote up blog.dave.tf/post/new-kub...

With the benefit of years, I feel more defeated about "every pod deserves an IPv4", and more concerned by how bad the day 2 of duct-taping OSS pieces (er... platform building) is.

If we were to start over from first principles, what would I do differently than k8s?

3. Make a firmer decision on k8s as a starting point vs a usable platform. E.g. StatefulSets as a native concept in v1 feels 2/3rds baked yet the default solution.

4. I don't have a "how" in mind, but consider shifting some of the component "bundling" behavior in-platform vs e.g. "use Helm".

Some super broad points:

1. Change to secure resource defaults. Break existing implicit contracts like "all network traffic allowed with no NetPol" by default. We did a sig-usability talk on this in 2019.
2. Allow some in-place pod changes, particularly resource increases.

It drives me nuts in local elections when various advocacy groups go “don’t rank <mediocre candidate who would be better than a ghoul>”. You’re throwing away your ability to say no to ghouls! You don’t water down your top vote by ranking!

It feels like a moment we’ve been becoming ripe for over years. Being in charge is about title and getting to vaguely wave a hand and tell people to figure it out.

It's less oriented on meditation, but I really appreciate The Noble Eightfold Path by Bhikshu Bhodi for how directly it lays out foundational Buddhist teachings and the cycle of suffering.
