is that even genAI though?

it sounds like a neat idea but not really sure why you’d need an LLM to do it

the moment you’re talking about local models you’ve moved away from LLM techniques and back towards something more normal

everyone’s bending over backwards to find *something* chatGPT/copilot/gemini must be good for but we already had better, faster, less ethically compromised tools

a team I was on got credited like that once (a single block of “Developers”) and it felt bad for the reasons you say, plus the publisher and everyone else got the usual treatment so only the people who made the game scrolled by really quick

genAI moodboards make even less sense to me - the point of putting together a moodboard is to quickly curate examples of tone and intent, it is literally a way to make important decisions about the direction of the project, why would you farm that out to the generic averages machine?

but it's objectively bad for placeholder assets too!

the point of a placeholder asset is to meet requirements (so development can continue around it) and appear placeholder but genAI isn't good at following exact instructions and can be mistaken for a shipping asset, which is dangerous

This is the takeaway I'd like more people to realize. What you see is what you get. We've already hit diminishing returns and the returns are crummy.

yeah they'll push it for everything, they have no killer apps so anything will do

and the goal is transparently to create human creators, but replacing them with slop is so short sighted and meaningless :(

yeah it's kind of sad, companies literally being paid to try and use it and they can't or are discovering it's a liability, so the headline becomes "everyone's secretly using it all the time trust us bro"

yeah and like you say it’ll only be the next trend - spamming the marketplace to make a buck has been a thing forever (why Steam charges $100, Sony’s store rule changes etc) and will only get more aggressive, so we already know what it’s like, and it sucks

it’s not early days

this is the result of years of intensely financially motivated development being carried out in parallel by the worlds largest tech companies

this is what we’re getting and it’s shit
November 12, 2025 at 3:59 AM
am I going to be left behind by those that “embrace” it?

oh no they’ll make mediocre shit faster than I make my stuff

while forgetting how to code/model/write/think when the bubble pops and the genAI tools get taken offline
