Ome day we're gonna do a movie about the bizarre tale of Enoch Burke

www.thejournal.ie/enoch-burke-...
Debunked: Enoch Burke was jailed again, but not for 'refusing to endorse transgender ideology'
Misleading claims about the arrest were shared in Spanish, French, and Polish, as well as by UK and US figures.

There's some uncomfortable self agrandizing response to the nanotyrannus research that's just unprofessional imo

The new research on Nanotyrannus is very interesting.

The language surrounding it online makes me disquieted.

But do I think ALL mid-sized Hell Creek tyrannosaurs are Nanotyrannus?

Not necessarily.

The big challenge now is differentiating specimens of Nanotyrannus from bona fide juvenile rex. And it will be tough, as they are probably really similar.

Nanotyrannus is real.

For years I’ve considered many mid-sized gracile tyrannosaurs to be juvenile T. rex.

But I was wrong. This stunning new skeleton of a mature long-armed small tyrannosaur is clearly a different species.

Isn’t science fun?!

Researchers discover new tyrannosaur species in ‘duelling dinosaurs’ fossil
Analysis of Montana fossils shows the battling predator was a fully grown Nanotyrannus, not a young T rex

My latest for @nytimes.com! For 40 years, paleontologists have grappled over whether a small tyrannosaur — named Nanotyrannus — was its own animal, or simply a teenage T.rex. The debate has been ... contentious. Which is why it's so fun to finally be able to say this:

Folks? Nanotyrannus is real.

this should be considered a victory for evidence and proper evaluation of data and science. But I'm sure it'll be considered as vindication that wanting something to be true and arm waving about what someone else said they measured on a specimen no one else had seen, gave the *right* answer.

to be convinced. Now that has happened, people like me and @arctomet.bsky.social and @stevebrusatte.bsky.social are saying 'yes, this is convincing, Nano appears to be valid' *because* the scientific method was followed, and *not* because people *thought* that it was. In short...

I'm pretty confident that certain online people are going to be cheering about how they were right all along on Nanotyrannus. Their take will be that they were right all along and their arguments, based on private specimens of uncertain provenance, photos of things without scale bars, and ideas...

I wonder if it'd be of use (or anyone would be interested in chipping in) to do a discussion on hardships of finding postdoctoral or permanent employment in palaeo (and how these hardships are accentuated in disadvnataged groups) 🤔
