Egyptian Blue Bes ceramic Statue from the British museum shop, kind of looks like a tiny suspicious bear? He's adorable A middle Egyptian turquoise hippo from the met. He looks despondent and adorable. He has line art of reeds painted on his back and face. A ceramic baby rattle from the met shaped like a pig. However it doesn't look much like a pig, it's giving creature saying ooooooo. It's adorable. Little red earthenware bowl from the met. It has two little humanoid feet on the bottom and looks like he's standing shyly. Adorable.

my 6th graders just completed their tiny food sculptures made from polymer clay and found materials. the best part of this project is watching students reverse engineer how to achieve different shapes, colors, and textures. each student also writes a story to describe the significance of their food.
a tiny clay sculpture of a stack of pancakes, salmon and a bowl of rice noodles, and a large rectangular casserole dish of macaroni and cheese. the pieces sit on a base colored to look like wood grain. two tiny silver utensils sit next to the pancakes. a tiny clay sculpture of a stack of a rustic bread loaf with a sprig of rosemary, a wooden cutting board with whole and sliced tomatoes, and a bowl of tomato soup. the pieces sit on a bright red base to contrast with the white plates. A tiny sculpture of a triple layer red velvet cake with white buttercream frosting and pastel buttercream roses on the top. One slice is removed from the whole cake so you can see the textures inside. It sits on a sky blue base. a tiny clay sculpture of a plate of dumplings on a light blue plate, a bottle of soy sauce with a small dish of soy sauce beside it. there is a clear cup with light green liquid to left and the pieces sit on a base colored to look like wood grain. two tiny chopsticks balance on the plate next to a dumpling that is sliced in half.

i remember thinking perspective drawing was both illuminating and tedious as a student... as a teacher, i'm trying to mix it up. my high school drawing students are applying their study of perspective to choose a special view of our school, then add surreal elements to make it their own! #arted
