日本だとあまりピンとこないところはある話だが、英語圏だと、オンラインゲーム文化は、有害なサブカルチャーとの親和性が極めて高く、妥当な懸念ではある。グロイパーズみたいなのが生まれる温床のひとつに現実になっているわけで。チャーリー・カーク銃撃事件の犯人がグロイパーだという陰謀論が出てきたのも、オンラインゲームのサブカルチャーに親しんでいたと思われる犯人が使っていたミームがグロイパーズとも重複する領域のものだったから出てきたところはあるだろう。
