Edmontonian, proud socialist, thinks people should just be kind to each other.
“The research team found that 94 percent of participants stood firm in their trans identity five years later. ”
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

I am so glad to see these faith communities speak out against this horrible violation of rights towards the Trans community.
“The decision to override Charter rights fails this test.”

The Anglican, Lutheran and United Churches in Alberta have written to Danielle Smith condemning her use of the notwithstanding clause to punch down on the vulnerable Albertans.

I saw this story in the book of faces. And it really hit home for me. This is not just relevant for education settings, but all workplaces. Leaders need to step up and listen to their employees when they say something’s not right.

Let’s do it!
If Albertans don't stand up en masse NOW, Smith will continue to erode our right until we have none left. She has been running roughshod over us for yrs w no consequences. Enough is enough. General strike, now!

I don’t think I’ve ever contacted an elected official before. I just e-mailed every single Alberta MLA.

An important note…

Smith isn’t just overriding the federal Charter…

She’s also overriding the Alberta Human Rights Act AND the Alberta Bill of Rights she just rewrote.

Unreal. So despicable. #firetheUCP

Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.
The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights.

And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it.

Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it.

Great song in support of teachers.
Oh Alberta, can't you see?
You can't cut schools and call that free
We teach the truth not party lines
and we won't bow to budget lies

You want obedience? We want change!
You want silence? We bring rage!

Let that sink in. This is the fight of their generation.

There’s enough money. It’s all about priorities.
AB’s finance minister has said the province set aside $2.6 billion to cover the costs of a new 4yr teacher contract, and that the ATA’s latest offer would cost $2B over that, which works out to $1.15B/yr.

Wanna guess how much the recent income tax cut is costing the province? $1.2B/yr. Priorities.

Much better mathing than the Premier’s version.
In which the Premier of Alberta opens her mouth and proves she doesn't know what she's talking about.

Again.

Unbelievable. Chills.

Tens of thousands of teachers converging downtown just outside where Danielle Smith is addressing an audience.

I’ve never seen anything like this.

Time to listen up, Premier.

Time for a fair deal.

We stand with teachers.

This makes me so angry. It’s time for the UCP to be rooted in reality. Support our schools. Support our teachers. Support our kids. Stop giving all our money away to oil and gas and fund public education!
When asked about the UCP's statement on the last offer by the ATA which said teachers need to expect a deal that is "rooted in reality"...

ATA President Jason Schilling held very little back in his response.
