KILAUEA Volcano a few days ago VS Today! 🌋
Cannot believe it was on pause the whole time I was camping it on the Big Island few days ago, and started erupting again as I left 😭 We did see some smoke and orange glow at the vents, it was still fascinating even if Pele was having a little break 🥰

Is it just me, or does everyone pick a favorite plant when they travel? 🤔 On my trip to Hawaii, I fell in love with the Uluhe fern! It is a whimsical, goofy plant with a pop of purple, that feels like it belongs in a fairytale 💜🌿

We had a nēnē couple with a baby nēnē approach us while hiking at Kiluea Caldera today 🌋 🪿 what was fascinating was them communicating, like little human grumpy sounds "merp murp merp" 😂 also this road is not active because it's all broken from the eruption, but available to get to on foot!

Another tradition every Christmas Eve (Kūčios) is my grandmother's mushroom pierogi. This year I used some boletus straight from lithuania combined with Canadian mushrooms too! I will keep the tradition until I pass it along to the next generation 🥟

Preparations for Christmas Eve started! Of course I have to bake some traditional lithuanian kūčiukai. They are these tiny poppy seed biscuits that we usually eat with poppy seed milk, or honestly we just snack on them dry throughout the holidays 😊🎄

The sparkly crystals sometimes found on cork are called wine diamonds! 🍷
These are natural formations, made of potassium bitartrate (the same stuff in the cream of tartar). The tartaric acid in the wine binds with potassium and crystalizes - kind of like a wine -geology moment! 💎
