Reminder Superman is not a power fantasy, he's an altruism fantasy.

The idea of someone with godlike powers using them solely for good (with an antagonist who is a billionaire, who by definition do the opposite) was dreamt up by Jewish kids in the 30s and its just as if not more relevant now.

Today, feeling close to cosmopolitans or feminists separates voters of the left from right voters who identify with people who are down to earth and hard working.

Yet, these identities do have structural roots, just like class identities did.

Fascinating article on translation and reference to the 'self'.

'Speakers and writers of Japanese have...a range of choices when referring to the self.

Each of the Japanese pronouns is loaded with meaning, suggesting gender, age, rank or relationships between people (among other things).'

The lack of long-term contracting in Denmark explains why no developers stepped forward. In recent research, I and co-authors show that markets w/o robust long-term contracting see less wind (& solar) investment and potentially more fossil fuel investment. 4/9 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

A cautionary tale unfolded last week as Denmark failed to attract bids for offshore wind. What can we learn from this?

This is a multi-dimensional problem, but the primary lesson I believe is that Denmark wrongly expected developers to take on market risk. 🧵🔌💡1/9

Failed offshore auction highlights how Denmark missed winds of change
Denmark's failure to attract any bids in an offshore wind power tender this week stems from a rigid auction model, a failure to adapt to a changed economic reality for renewable energy projects and rising competition, analysts said on Friday.
