Infectious diseases and their global story
Pinned
Measles likely came from cows (via rinderpest) around the 6th century BCE.

For 2,500 years, we didn’t evolve superhuman resistance—children just died. Real protection only came in the 1960s, with vaccines.

Our superpower isn’t evolving into superhumans. It’s outthinking pathogens.

Measles virus diverged from rinderpest virus in the sixth century BCE, indicating an early origin for human measles.

My latest: news.immunologic.org/p/rfk-jrs-al...

I debunk ALL of RFK Jr.’s lies about aluminum & vaccines.

•Aluminum adjuvants in vaccines DO NOT CAUSE allergies or autism.

•You eat 70X more aluminum daily than any vaccine contains.

•There is no peanut oil in any vaccine. EVER.

Read ⬇️
RFK Jr.'s Aluminum Lie
No, aluminum vaccine adjuvants aren't causing autism, allergies, or other health issues. RFK Jr.'s conspiracy hinges on a 1961 patent, zero evidence, and total ignorance of immunology.

Marburg outbreaks have often been associated with mining and caves, where bats roost.

The outbreaks in Kigali, Rwanda and Durba, DRC both originated in mines.
Likewise, in July 2007, 4 cases of Marburg (1 fatal) occurred in miners at Kitaka Mine in southern Uganda 1/n

Marburg outbreaks are usually smaller but may be deadlier per patent than Ebola.

Angola’s 2004–05 outbreak size was an exception: 252 cases, 227 deaths (~90%) with many cases likely uncounted. Likewise, Durba, DRC saw 154 cases and 128 deaths (83% case-fatality rate) 1/n

Marburg and Ebola fly. Africa’s largest mammal migration is bats—and as climate shifts, forests fall, and people move or mine in bat habitats, bats and humans meet more often. That means risking spillover of Ebola and Marburg. www.lifegate.com/africa-large...

An investigational Marburg vaccine used in Rwanda’s 2024 outbreak is not yet approved but can be deployed in outbreaks if protocols move quickly

A monoclonal antibody was also used in Rwanda, but this isn’t a cure. Past Marburg outbreaks have had 24–88% fatality rates, esp affecting health workers

Esto. Diagnosticamos más fiebres hemorrágicas porque diagnosticamos mejor. Pero también porque el cambio climático altera los hábitats de animales salvajes (murciélagos), nosotros alteramos sus hábitats y nos movemos más
We’ll likely see more viral hemorrhagic fevers like Ebola and Marburg. Better diagnostics, climate- and environmental- change driven shifts in bat migration, disruption of bat habitats (mines/caves) by extractive industries, and increased human mobility increase outbreak spread - and detection
