Postrat culture needs some transmasculine rep. Y'all are rad, but I'm kinda drowning in estrogen.

"There's no such thing as life without bloodshed. The notion that the species can be improved in some way, that everyone could live in harmony, is a really dangerous idea... desire that it be that way will enslave you and make your life vacuous."

Collective punishment is obviously evil. But all forms of punishment involve unnecessary harm, and should likewise be abolished. And 'justice' should probably be replaced with models of well-being that don't involve keeping score.

The Shout was like the George P. Cosmatos version of a Nicholas Roeg movie.

Rewatched Ciao! Manhattan last night. It's a film that takes the romanticized view of the 60s, and smashes it into ground glass.

I found the Drake story: baencd.freedoors.org/Books/Balefi...

A bit like an old Twilight Zone, but this goes harder. I won't say any more.

Gattaca is a well-intentioned movie that makes some very bad choices.

I'm not tech-literate (if it wasn't obvious), and HTML is the most code I've touched. But I respect cypherpunk arguments for a more open web. And it's probably good that we minimize the amount of personal data collected by the services we use.

The art blocklist is bad in part b/c it lumps together very different things: automated (AI) art, partially automated (generative) art, and fully handmade art that happens to be minted on a blockchain. You don't have to be into any of these, but be careful that your own thinking isn't automated.

I don't agree that ownership can only be backed up by force. It can be backed by social consensus, or history of use. Personal property existed before capitalism, and there's a difference between owning a mine (which yes, you might need an army for) and owning a bicycle.
as an anarchist, i understood why it was nonsense before the explainer articles came out. the idea of ownership is only meaningful if backed up by FORCE.
a billionaire can own a mountain full of precious ores because a national army backs his claim.
a receipt in an append-only database isn't.
the funniest part of NFTs were when people didn't know how they worked, and the crypto guys kept excitedly explaining how cool it was, but people were asking "this doesn't make any sense, am I dumb?" and software engineers appeared to go "no it's exactly that stupid and weird and nonsensical"

More people need to see this. It's from way back in 2021, but it's still the best critical look at NFTs and their implications I've read.
Are NFTs Frigid Stars?
Update 25/10/2021: This post has proven very popular and I have followed much of the discussion around it on Twitter with interest. Returning to it a few weeks later, I've decided to update and polish...
