As a future healthcare professional, I plan to incorporate nutrition in many aspects. Depending on what my patients end goals are, I plan to help them in their journey on whatever it may be. This semester I learned a lot about nutrition, but there is still more to learn. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Programs like this are helping families with food security around the country. I have taken part in some food drives before, and you can see the change it makes.
Happy Thanksgiving! Today, we remember that 450,000 Minnesotans need food assistance — including almost 150,000 kids and 11,000 veterans. In a time of economic turmoil, food banks and nutrition programs are a lifeline, and we must ensure they are able to support those in need.

One thing I will look for in nutrition posts before I take it as a fact is the credentials of the person making the statement. However, for thanksgiving, I will not be nutritionally conscious. I will be eating a lot of mac and cheese along with a lot of turkey. @beh353.bsky.social

While AI tracking makes things easy, it isn't the most accurate. A lot of ads recently have been encouraging people to use these AI trackers, but it will lead to spreading misinformation and diets will be ruined.@beh353.bsky.social

Mindfulness can lead to a lasting impact on not only our mental health but our physical health as well. If we take time out of our day to make little changes and get out of our comfort zone it can lead to a healthier life. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

From Tom's story, I learned that there is no one size fits all solution to weight loss. Rather, making small changes in our routine can lead to big outcomes. With future patients and clients I'll focus less on perfection and more on sustainable habits. @beh353 #beh353

A lot of people including myself fall victim to shaming ourselves about what we have not accomplished. It's time that we start appreciating what we can still accomplish with the time we have rather than questioning why we haven't started it. @beh353 #beh353
The year isn’t over yet. Two months is plenty of time to make progress on something that matters to your health. Focus on what you can do today, not what you didn’t do yesterday. #RealWorldNutrition

A fact I learned this week about obesity is that it is more than just will power. Obesity is shaped by our genetics, environment, and income. I was lucky, but many arent and as James Corden said fat shaming is just bullying which leads to depression and more. @beh353 #beh353

This is more important now then ever, we are learning about barriers to nutrition in class and with the new changes regarding food stamps and food security programs many people's lives will be changing for the worse.

I love my culture's food and my mom knows how to chef it up in the kitchen, but her food is a barrier that I face because it isn't always the healthies foods. I am trying to help them and myself learn better eating habits.@beh353 #beh353

Spinach is not only delicious but full of vitamins that people spend hundreds of dollars on.
Spinach gets a bad rap, but it’s one of the most versatile vegetables. Folate, vitamin K, iron, fiber — all in a low-calorie package. Fresh or frozen both work. Toss it in pasta, eggs, soups, or smoothies. It doesn’t need to be complicated. #RealWorldNutrition #NutritionFacts

something I learned this week is that most supplements don’t prevent disease and may even cause harm. A balanced diet with real foods provides nutrients more safely and effectively than pills. Especially with the amount big pharma makes, save your money and use food for nutrients. @beh353 #beh353

I had no idea that having a green diet (specifically a mediterranean one) could lead to slower brain aging. I will definetly be adding green tea to my thermostat at night.
Following a green-Mediterranean diet—which includes green tea and the aquatic plant Mankai—is associated with slower brain aging, according to a study co-authored by researchers at Ben-Gurion University, Harvard Chan School, and the University of Leipzig.

An article I found that was fascinating was "Is your breakfast cereal healthy?" written by Robert H. Shmerling, and published in Harvard Health. This article highlights that majority of cereals are actually very unhealthy. While it seems obvious many people may not realize this fact. @beh353 #beh353

I 100% agree, although I may not be vegetarian, a vegetarian diet offers many benefits for people with all types of goals. However, it is difficult to obtain some vital nutrients like protein unless you are actively adding it to the plate.
A vegetarian diet can be healthy—but not automatically. It still depends on what’s on your plate. Chips and soda are technically vegetarian too. I break down the biggest myths about vegetarian eating in my latest post: www.shelleyrael.com/blog/vegetar... #RealWorldNutrition

With the supplement industry blowing up, I think swapping in these foods into your meals can help you save money while also improving diet. No more money being spent on collagen pills.

My normal day to day meal is chicken and rice, but it doesn't have much fiber in my diet. Since I use white rice, it isn't very nutrient dense, so I could add brown rice instead. Another change I could make is add veggies onto the plate especially some beans and avocados. @beh353 #beh353

In no world should children ever go hungry, but sadly it is the case, but cutting the annual food insecurity will lead to more children starving day to day with no benefit.
If the annual food insecurity survey is canceled - the US has no way to monitor how often this experience is happening.

1 in 5 children in Kentucky are food insecure (do not have enough to eat). This is a 48% rise in two years.

This week we were tasked to track our intake of food for 24hours, and let me say it was hard, but manageable. I usually eat the same thing every day. I dont measure, so nothing was a surprise, but it was hard to determine what my calories/protein intake was in the day. @beh353 #beh353

I think this post sums up how we should all look at nutrition and our meals. A number on a scale shouldn't determine if we will starve ourselves one day or binge eat another. I couldn't have said it better, the key is "prioritizing health and well-being over the number on the scale."
I wanna talk about what weight-neutral nutrition is because there is still so much confusion and concerning takes on it from non-practitioners. Weight-neutral nutrition is about prioritizing health and well-being over the number on the scale.
