Teeny, tiny, baby kale is the first of the fall garden! Planted only 6 days ago. The peas haven’t yet appeared. I also sowed some carrots, but I’ve never had much luck with them so expectations are low. It may be late to have planted for fall, but I’m still figuring out how to grow in this zone.

Just one of the many places in Napa where we’re protesting peacefully. All the overpasses over Hwy 29 are packed.

Some of my favorite photos from my trip to the Crescent City, CA area and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park last week. Scenes from the trail to Grove of Titans and Tolowa Dunes.

Inspired by the beautiful images of birds shared here, this video I took last week at Mill Creek in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (CA) captures what appears to be an American Dipper. It was such a kick to see this little song bird swimming in the creek looking for tasty morsels.

My rescue dog, Maybelline, has cancer. She had a mammary tumor removed last Friday and the biopsy results are back. The vet just called to talk over the results. No chemo for her; she’s too sensitive to meds, in general. We’ll monitor her and hope she has many more months with us. 😭

Working on a tapestry tonight. There are so many different techniques in weaving, and I enjoy learning them all.

Getting Covid ruined my opportunity to to take a tablet weaving class, so I’m happy I had recovered by last weekend and could take the double weave + V shawl weaving class. Here is the shawl off the loom. I still need to work on the fringe and wet finish, but I’m happy that it turned out well.

The most accurate comment I’ve seen about the horrifying meeting with Zelensky in the WH.

I’ve been using the Iceland knot, but there are other options.

Yes, what’s going on right now is awful. I can’t always be in high alert, though. So I sit down at my loom listening to a book and just immerse myself in the weaving. This technique is called vararfeldur and was used to make cloaks in medieval Scandinavia and Ireland. #weaving

In addition to the adorable Gidget, I have two other foster dogs: Kiki and Aurora. They are being great “aunties” to Gidget. I love seeing them all playing together.

Today’s photos of the foster puppy, Gidget. She’s up one pound, so my efforts to fill her out more are working. She’s soooo soft.

You know it’s a hot day in SF when the line at Humphry Slocombe in the Ferry Building is long and slow.

It’s sunny and way too hot and humid in SF today. 🥵 This calls for an emergency stop at Philz for something over ice. Where is @karlthefog.bsky.social when you need them?

Good morning from my new foster pup! She’s 8 wks old and came from a bad situation. She arrived with fleas, worms, and a playful, confident attitude. I’m still thinking up a name, but Gidget seems to be taking hold. Other suggestions?

My newest hobby is tapestry weaving on this little loom. Quite different than cloth weaving, but a lot of overlap in the terminology, techniques, and tools.
