Anyone who read Trespasses a couple of years ago (the book on the Women's Prize for Fiction shortlist that Caitriona read from), it is now a Channel 4 mini series. I watched the first episode last night and was hooked (and horrified)

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

Ugh
This man
This paper.
Using the same rhetoric as Trump’s lot, jumping on the Kirk bandwagon to claim victimhood and cancel free speech if it criticises him.

Farage incites riots on our streets, then acts all ‘poor me’ when his ugly racist ideas are called out.

No one should pander to this shit.

So, Sunday Times runs with latest poll showing Farage winning if there was an election now. But makes NO mention of Reform’s collusion with Russia. And this is how democracy gets beaten to death in the dark. Voters are not being told the truth. Reform is given the stage but is NEVER held to account.

Nathan Gill is no fringe politician.

He was the leader of the Reform Party and before that UKIP in Wales.

A Brexit Party MEP.

A friend and ally of Nigel Farage, who in 2016 called him:

"terrific," and "as honest as the day is long."

This is a MASSIVE story

I'm trying to find any descendants of John and Emma Gilkes who lived in Heath Road, Twickenham, in the early 19th century.

Here they are.. behind the bride... at the wedding of their daughter Ethel to a man called Will Whiting ca 1908.

Feel like I'm in a Hartley novel...

Every election is a sort of collective entrance exam into the future. It occasionally happens that populations fail the exam.

But for the US to fail essentially a resit of its 2016 exam, featuring the same questions, having studied the answers for eight years, is much rarer and pretty unforgivable.

Here’s an idea - politicians have to apply for a licence to practice politics, renewed every 5 years. If you are found to have been a key architect of a disastrous decision which has made the country measurably poorer, that’s one of the criteria through which the licence can be revoked.

We're at the point where the Trump does something worse than Watergate daily, often multiple times a day. And none of it makes news; it's just normal now.
In a less insane time, if it was discovered that the President of the United States said this privately to their AG, it would’ve triggered an all-encompassing, impeachable corruption scandal.

Here, Trump is saying it publicly and it’s just another Saturday.
