I loved this statement! When energy feels low, focusing on a balanced meal and light activity can help stabilize both energy and mood. Small, practical steps often work better than drastic changes. Consistency in these habits can support overall well-being over time. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
If today feels a little sluggish, that is normal. A balanced meal and some light activity usually help more than any drastic changes. Keep the day steady and practical. #RealWorldNutrition

Throughout this semester, I loved sharing ideas! My favorite was Shelley A. Rael because I learned that you need to watch out for misleading claims that are on the front of the package. I enjoyed getting to know my classmate’s ideas and their different perspectives. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

For Thanksgiving, I'm looking forward to roasted potatoes! I season it with paprika, garlic, and lots of oil. The oil makes it so that the potatoes are crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. It pairs well with the turkey and is a family favorite! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This case shows that even "all natural" snacks can contain hidden synthetic ingredients. This highlights the importance of teaching children (as well as guiding parents) to make healthy food choices to build lifelong healthy eating habits. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Just like how Tom found success through a simple daily routine with his salad, making a cappuccino reflects the power of consistent rituals. Healthy behavior change doesn't have to be extreme, it can come from finding balance in everyday habits! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Reading Tom's story and seeing how he lost 132 pounds by making the same grilled-chicken salad reminds me how powerful consistency and simplicity is when it comes to a lifestyle change. When working with future clients, I will focus on one realistic habit to stick with @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I recently learned about leptin and when that leptin is defective, it leads to constant hunger and obesity. However, hunger isn't only about biology. Many people fail to realize that there are a number of social factors as well that can impact someone's health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Hunger isn’t only about food. It’s tied to income, housing, education, and access to grocery stores. Real nutrition solutions start by understanding those bigger systems. #RealWorldNutrition

A fun fact is that there's a gene called leptin that is directly linked to obesity. This is interesting because for some people, weight gain isn't just about diet, it's literally in their DNA! It's important to look at the whole picture when in the healthcare field. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This is a great reminder that a claim that is on the front of the package is often a marketing strategy rather than a reliable, nutritional quality of the product. Relying solely on these labels can lead to quick decisions that aren't nutritious! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

While researching about the keto diet, I noticed that octopus is a great example of a low carb food! I believe that preparing the octopus is crucial because you don't want to cook it in butter or fatty oils which can add extra fat and calories. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I was looking into the keto diet and it seems great for short-term results, such as weight loss. It burns fat instead of carbs. However, the long-term research is still being studied which makes me wonder if the short-term benefits are really worth it.

I found this information to be very interesting! Melting disrupts the protein, which give it more flavor. Since it also breaks down fats, it can also slow digestion, making you feel full. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Someone asked why melted cheese tastes so much better...I love these Qs, it's food science we take for granted!
Melting breaks down fats and proteins to release umami + aroma/flavour compounds. The gooey texture spreads to the tastebuds better + the Maillard reaction creates that toasty flavour.

What I found really interesting from this week's lecture is that glucose is the only nutrient molecule that passes the blood brain barrier. I didn't expect that carbs, which don't have the best reputation in the nutrition world, to be that beneficial! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
