Not me trying to purify 16 flask of protein, running 80 samples for genotying for PCR , applying for an accelerator, preparing videos and writing manuscript in same day and still being sane.
Maybe not sane thats a long sentence.

Today is a full empty lab with only international’s working! Being far from home you don’t celebrate your country’s independence day , but also you dont feel celebrating where you are now, so you r kinda nowhere.

Major strides in pediatric cancer treatments and cures, the results of decades of federal investment in basic biomedical research 💪
85 percent of children diagnosed with cancer are alive at least five years later, according to the National Cancer Institute. Survivors can face lifelong complications from their treatments — something oncologists are working to improve.
More kids are beating cancer. Improving the rest of their lives is next.
“There’s an entire population of kids who didn’t exist before. Now we need to figure out how to best support them,” one expert says.

I agree on this so much.
I think academia needs more public discussions focussed on constructive criticism.

Such discussions are hard.
Much harder than superficial praise that is popular on social media.

Yet, scrutiny & rigor are more important for science than superficial praise.

Investigating structures of biomolecules in their native context is challeneging.

In situ cryo-electron tomography is making remarkable progress.

AlphaFold’s highly accurate structural models transformed protein biology. Nature reports on the efforts to create a similar system for RNA and why it’s a tougher nut to crack. #RNAsky 🧪
RNA function follows form – why is it so hard to predict?
AlphaFold’s highly accurate structural models transformed protein biology, but RNA lags behind.

You can't let science stop just because of a silly little thing like the frailty of the human body. What's next having days off!

Having fast papers or quality papers has been one of things I had to consider during my phd journey. I still stand that by having quality science and well validated we can actually make change to the world and solve problems that need solving!

Early in lab playing Édith Piaf might be the best thing with an empty lab

Today was truly incredible. In less than a month, rallies were organized at 30+ sites across our country AND abroad. This is just the beginning - we will continue to advocate for everyone who benefits from our research! @standupforscience.bsky.social

I heard this in a podcast “The most important aspect in research is problem selection” and i think its so important when you get or think about a PhD project. You have to think that if you solve that problem it will have a major impact in the world.
Sure if it works…
