Progressive reformers tend to be very good at political organizing and groundswell. But their disdain (often warranted) of patronage-style politics often makes it difficult for them to be connected to the larger communities they need to serve.

Zohran Mamdani Must Not Give Good Intentions a Bad Name
John Lindsay expanded welfare, civil rights, and public spending—yet left New Yorkers politically disarmed. Zohran Mamdani should learn the lessons of his mayoralty.

Not terrifying whatsoever
DHS now says it's aiming for 100 million deportations. In an amazing coincidence, there are 104 million Black and Hispanic people living in the U.S. right now.

Yeah this take is devoid of any real insight into the behavior of dc people. These are my people, they wont "unlearn" how to go to one specific theatre venue...
This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

I still think Newsom likely is the nominee and bsky is just gonna have to cope
Double Prediction:

Gavin Newsom will be the first Democratic presidential candidate to announce his campaign and it will be in January of 2027. He will immediately shoot up to the top of the polls. He also likely wins Nevada.

What, exactly, constitutes a "fake opinion" anyways?
This is as easy a test of your belief in the American system as is conceivable: Should this be an acceptable argument from a president?

An unpopular opinion. I think from a politics perspective the dems are doing fine actually.

At a certain point when you are in the absolute minority and you believe the other side is plain wrong, all you can do is give the other side enough rope to hang themselves with

FWIW, for all the talk about AIPAC's contributions to elected officials, its real power is similar to the NRA's: It's ability to mobilize its most devoted members to give members of Congress an earful. Its spending in campaigns and primaries is a relatively new development.

It may be easy to dismiss Justin Olson's comments that people with disabilities shouldn't get married as right-wing claptrap. But the American government discourages it because if people with disabilities get married, they risk losing their SSI benefits.

dems did better in the shutdown that anyone else has done maybe ever as not in power, theyve moved their strongest issue front & center

There are some on this app that had tingling desires to use the shutdown to try to blow up the whole thing which would have failed and backfired over the holidays
It’s hard to believe, but Democrats basically won the shutdown. They got enough Republicans in the House side to go with them. And even if it doesn’t pass the Senate, it will now be THE issue in 2026

An issue ive moved greatly on -- its long past time to cast Traitorous leaders from our institutions of democracy, especially depictions of Robert E. Lee that dont even reflect who he was as a commander and are instead revisionist fetishes of failed white supremacist generals (Early, Bragg)
