Anti-social socialist
Just listened to @newsagents.bsky.social interview with Rupert Lowe.
Why do journalists waste so much time asking populists to repeat the vile things they have said previously? It changes nobody’s opinion of them.
Push these people on policy - ignore their performative bigotry/xenophobia

The best way of preventing vulnerable girls from being abused is by ensuring they are no longer vulnerable.

Vulnerability stems from poverty. Eradicate poverty and predators won’t have anyone to prey upon.

Musk isn’t interested in that; just weaponising racism to divide us & protect his wealth

Let me tell you what has 'kept Britain in a chokehold' for three decades: rightwing media billionaires, stagnant wages, dishonest politicians, austerity, Brexit, housing crisis, hungry kids and skyhigh NHS waiting lists. Not ASLEF and RMT.

This is a whole different level of stupid
This would amount to a massive tax cut for the highest paid people in Britain, paid for by higher taxes for low earners and big cuts to public services

How confusing it must be for those who are convinced that there are no refugees, only “economic migrants”, to see the thousands of displaced Syrians rushing to return home, now that the despotic regime from which they fled, has been deposed.

Can someone please remix this, swapping out “awesome” with @mrjamesob.bsky.social’s favourite word.

It would be extraordinary 😉

With Haigh's departure from the cabinet, for the first time in our political history, the cabinet is 100% state educated. Quite the moment.

A lot of wining at the CBI from people who don’t get that if you want to move your goods around the country, you’ve got to have roads & railways; if you want staff to work for you, you need schools & healthcare; and if you want customers, you can’t hoard all of the money.
Money has to move, to grow!

Can never understand the logic of "slippery slope" arguments when we have a system where the House of Commons decides nearly everything. It's only a slippery slope if in the future the Commons changes its mind on something- which guess what, it can do at any time.

No farmers’ march over the ruinous Australia deal nor the calamitous withdrawal of EU benefits… but propose that farmers pay half the Inheritance Tax that everyone else does, spread over a period of ten years, and suddenly it’s 1968 in wellies.

Good to see.
As described by @barristersecret.bsky.social, justice fails when an under-resourced police service is unable to provide the evidence needed for successful prosecutions.

As soon as someone uses the phrase “assisted suicide”, I lose all respect for them.
It demonstrates that they do not believe in the strength of their argument and are resorting to appealing to base emotions - forcing guilt on those wanting to enable people to end their lives with minimal suffering

@mrjamesob.bsky.social there were a record number of business closures in 2022 (when the Tories increased Employer NICs to 15.05%) but the hospitality & leisure sector was only the third most affected, and in none of the analysis did anyone suggest it was down to the rise in NICs.
Record number of businesses close across the UK – ONS
ONS data shows 345,000 firms across the UK shut their doors in 2022, up 5% on the previous year and the highest figure since records began in 2002.
