Listen to this segment. They *entrapped* Mayor Baraka and someone explicitly told ICE to arrest him, an American citizen standing on public ground, in front of sitting members of Congress who tried to stop it. This was already very bad and is now holy shit bad.
Please watch THIS particular interview, shared by @prisonculture.bsky.social to get the play by play on what happened. Getting arrested for protesting is a king move, but that's not what happened here. This was a goddamned grab and sack.

The way we were treated at Delaney Hall is almost unbelievable. ICE shoved me, manhandled @repbonnie.bsky.social, and arrested Mayor Baraka.

They disrespected us and tried to stop us from conducting the oversight we’re elected to do. But we’ll never back down in our fight for what is right.

We can take the quotation marks off now, to be honest. This is the most accurate and honest way to describe the situation

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like if a US exchange student in a foreign country (say, Turkey?) was imprisoned for six weeks because they wrote an op-ed in the student newspaper it would be a huge domestic story and an international incident.

Important update that Rep. Coleman says she had already been allowed into the facility (again, it would be have been illegal for ICE to have denied her and other Members access) and then *after that* the incident occurred.

Members of Congress were also there, but were not arrested. One reason why? It's literally illegal for DHS to bar any member of Congress from entering an immigration detention facility for the purposes of conducting oversight.

I just got word that this federal transportation grant was terminated today, despite us removing the word "climate" from the title. The moral of the story? Obeying orders doesn't keep you safe with this administration.
I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.
