At least my kid is medically complex and there's a whole host of diagnoses I can get my pediatrician to fax over? 😕

She's been a massive disappointment. This and her votes on crypto. Gross all the way around.

My kids would be *obsessed* with this. Too bad I’m halfway across the country.

A “checkered record” on disability issues according the article? No, absolutely not. His record shows nothing but animus and outright attacks towards the disabled and their rights.

A 16 year old kid was hit and killed crossing a street near me where the speed limit is 30mph. The photos of the damage to the car show the engine block halfway out of the car. Driver was going so fast that the kid never had a chance. Really infuriating anyone would defend a right to speed.

In this dude's world, then the coach always has to be the same gender. My college head coach was a man and I went to a women's college, where he worked for over 40 years and was universally beloved by those he coached. And somehow didn't cheat on his wife with his athletes.

Want to get your kid tested by a neuropsychologist? Better have $5k+ to pay out of pocket or be willing to be on a waitlist for 2 years if you want to go someplace insurance will cover.

Really fun when you reach the top of the list and discover they don't take your insurance any longer.

Reminds me of having to sit through an old org's annual staff travel meeting, which included a slide that said, "Make good choices! Org won't reimburse for excessive chips and cookies!"

I told my boss it was bullshit and I'd approve any expense report as long as it was below the per diem.

I've got 2 kids, one has a genetic disorder and lots of struggles but will be an independent, self-sufficient adult.

The other has anxiety and executive functioning issues.

My dad's actually helpful insight was that every kid has their thing, I just know early on what that thing is for my kids.

I wouldn't call any of the ones my kids have taken nice portraits, but I love the photos regardless.

The best was the Covid year where they took them without ever telling us, and my kid looked feral. But it felt like a perfect encapsulation of that year and is my favorite one ever.

We had an older version of that one and I remain annoyed that I had to get rid of it because of wear and tear, when it still worked great.

Plastic around the handle/buttons degraded and came apart. Buttons fell into the machine and were misaligned. One yank away from the whole section coming off.

Well, the 3 subtypes of ADHD weren't included in the DSM until 2000, right around NCLB. Going to bet that the predominantly inattentive subtype was likely underdiagnosed prior to that because those kids aren't disruptive in the classroom.

I oversee customer service for an organization that shares an acronym with Formula 1. Our inbox is about to be full of misplaced ire.

I’ve got a 21 hour flight next week and the idea of doing that in anything other than sweats is laughable.

I had a religious ed class when I was 15, with an anti-drug lesson one day. Over 30 years later I very clearly remember the middle aged mom teacher telling a joke whose punchline was, "It must have been that barbiturate," which was met by a whole lot of blank stares. My dad still laughs at this.

Do I think my kid, who was in kindergarten at the time, would have been diagnosed as dyslexic years earlier had it not been for Covid? Sure. Do I still think schools should have closed? Yes.

I think there will be lifelong ripple effects re: his education, but still better than the alternative.

My first job after grad school, I said to my boss, "There's so many young married people here."

She breezily replied, "Soon to be so many young divorced people!"

Time proved her correct on that one.

I once a juror in the most slam dunk case of all time in DC, and we still managed to deliberate for over a day. 🤷‍♀️

To the extent that *any* average voter would prioritize thoughts on 8th grade math class, it's the parents of kids who receive special education services, and the math class is just a symptom of their much larger concerns.

27 years later, I still remember, word for word, an excerpt from the campus police call log that was printed in my college newspaper. "Student called to report strange acting squirrel in tree between Lawrence and Morris. Officer dispatched. Squirrel had apparently fled the scene."

"Everyone being mean to each other for no reason whatsoever" speaks to my soul.

I was back visiting and at Fenway with my dad when the hot dog guy gave an unbelievable amount of shit to a kid who asked for chopped onions, and I just sighed and told my dad that was what I missed most living in DC.

Working for a boss like this was one of the most traumatic, horrible experiences of my life. She started while I was on maternity leave, and my first week back told me, "I guess I overestimated your ability to create an agenda" when she'd made a mistake. Wouldn't wish it on my biggest nemesis.
