Lots of time and effort has gone into the Independent Water Commission, which reports tomorrow. Unfortunately, it's a largely wasted exercise, because the government insisted that renationalisation of the water companies was outside its terms of reference: ie, it was not allowed to consider it.🧵

I think this is such a major driver of AI use in university assessments. And also just a real… disconnection between why we think students are here (to learn about history!) and why students think they are here (to get good grades, to get a job)
When you're working 3 jobs while going to school full time and just barely making enough to feed yourself, ChatGPT offers an appealing way to make life a little bit easier without feeling like you're REALLY doing something wrong

I'm increasingly getting a double bell curve in my classes

Britain is still providing arms to Israel. So it's doing a lot more than "tolerating" this world historic evil. It's continuing to participate in it.

Lammy's retoric was strong, but the announced actions were feeble. If we want to support the people of Gaza then we need to be clear about that.

Each time you ask an AI chatbot a question, it sends a request to a data center and strains an increasingly scarce resource: water.

A 🧵on our investigation into how the data centers that power AI are increasingly being built in highly water-stressed places:

The AI Boom Is Draining Water From the Areas That Need It Most
A Bloomberg News analysis finds that roughly two thirds of new data centers built or in development in the US since 2022 are in places with high levels of water stress.

UK SC's definition of 'woman' is a serious affront to decades of labour in queer studies to decouple sex & gender that even WHO recognises. It's a colonial-racial chokehold to safeguard power of TERFs & GCs. Moving forward, all women will have rights curtailed.

100 children killed or injured every day. That’s the equivalent of 2 buses per day, a whole school per week. How is this in anyone’s interests except those of the forces of fascism?
Israel continues its deadly attacks on Gaza, with UNRWA saying that at least 100 Palestinian children have been killed or injured each day in the besieged enclave since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18.
