Israel’s mass murder of 31 Yemeni journalists and media workers happened over a week ago. There has been zero coverage of this strike in the western press. Zero.
Israel’s targeted strikes on two newspaper offices in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which killed 31 journalists and media support workers on September 10th, marks the deadliest global attack in 16 years and the second deadliest single attack on the press ever recorded.

If one must, the preferred terminology in humanitarian circles is De Facto Authority (DFA) or Sana'a-based authorities

This is not a cold description of fact. Nothing is, but I like to think there are degrees of it and this is up there with "Iran-backed Houthi terrorists"

There is a Yemeni government recognized by every single country in the world except Iran, and it ain't the Houthis

March data is out:

More civilians were killed in 17 days of US strikes in March than in a year of bombings under Biden. At least 28 civilians killed and 66 injured in 97 US strikes from 15 to 31 March, in the worst month for civilian harm in air dropped bombs since the Saudi air war in Jan. 2022

This is a significant turning point for the war in Sudan, but it is far from over. Displaced people will likely return to a city that has no to little services too. If you want to support and help mitigate hunger please support local mutual aid groups. sudansolidarity.com

No, the Houthis aren't the Arab Uprising; they destroyed it

Yemen had one of the most successful uprisings; an NDC that, while problematic, tackled a lot of major issues; had a new constitution drawn up...

Then the Houthis allied with the old dictator and coup'd everyone into the current civil war

Among other things, the Houthi authorities have capitalized on popular solidarity with and legitimate concern for Palestinians to consolidate political control and stifle dissent. Their crackdown last summer/fall was awful and is not over. Human rights lawyers should know this.

Multiple waves of U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthis across several governorates in #Yemen. These are different in terms of scale, intensity and reach than ones last year.

US airstrikes in Yemen tonight makes the question of Britain’s role in joint US-UK strikes that began in Jan 2024 an urgent one. Until the British or American government say otherwise this remains a joint bombing campaign and the “hell that will rain down”, as Trump has promised also involves the UK
In all the noise over Starmer’s visit to Washington there’s not been a single mention of the current military cooperation between the US and the UK: the joint bombing campaign in Yemen.
Not one reporter in the White House press corps, those exiled from it, or the Westminster press pack raised it.

I keep seeing increasing amounts of analysis framing the Houthis as "the new Hezbollah" or "the new leaders of the Axis of Resistance" and, at times, Abdulmalek himself as the "new Nasrallah" and, tbh, that whole line of framing strikes me as overly simplistic at best. (1)

and, as always, some of the most targeted during resurgences of economic nationalism and economic protectionism are migrants (esp migrant workers and refugees). this is *exactly* what the stabilization of capitalism requires. because insourcing & outsourcing are flipsides of the same capitalist coin

trade war btwn imperialist allies (US & Canada) is means to use economic nationalism to rally behind otherwise status-quo. struggle between 'foreign' & 'domestic' capital maintains capitalism, hurts ppl through price gouging, reinforces racist nationalism & intensifies extraction on Indigenous lands

On Trump tarrifs on Canada:

Important not to give into economic protectionism that bolsters nationalism & breaks transnational solidarity btwn workers, esp migrant workers

Instead, focus on ending *capitalist* trade, embedded in resource extraction. Oppose deregulation & strengthen public services
