Patient came in with sore throat. While waiting for rapid Strep test result we glanced back at the Covid-19 RAT result: positive. Reminder that masking in health care makes sense, if you don’t want everyone in your waiting room to go home sick, your staff to get sick, and physicians to get sick.

NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

New piece:

Trump’s Fury at BBC Gets Unnerving Results with Pro-MAGA Edit Stunner
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

MO Republicans are doing everything they can to thwart a veto referendum that would block the state's new congressional gerrymander.

The latest: The SoS drafted an extremely slanted summary to describe the referendum to voters. Organizers are now suing. www.the-downballot.com/p/morning-di...

Since March 2017, we have published 170 different writers (not counting our reprints of classic liberal texts).

And of course, there will be more writers to come (maybe including you? pitch us!).

They all deserve a higher platform, and that's what this is about: www.gofundme.com/f/the-libera...

Hegseth is the most unqualified-corrupt defense secretary in modern times, and maybe all of U.S. history. He got the job because he is a white dude more loyal to another white dude than to the Constitution. Never forget that "moderate" Republican senators made this happen.

Trump's economy is being held up by a massive AI bubble.

A recent study found that of 300 companies that owned generative AI tools, 95% reported zero return on their investments.

We will not entertain a bailout of these companies should this bubble pop.

Is this a new definition of ceasefire? You can kill a few people here, say the ceasefire is still on, kill a few more, say it’s still on, launch a barrage of missiles to kill 100 people and declare it is still a ceasefire?

The description says Oz was grilled. He wasn’t. So his insane, absolutely insane, explanations about Trump’s claims are allowed to go unchallenged. She doesn’t even push on how drug price reductions actually began. This is why I hate this “civil” kind of journalism.

"Democracy dies if prominent black writers don't frame their arguments around appeasing white voters in Wisconsin," or "Democracy dies unless liberal writers praise radical, hateful conservative activists" is the subtext. And it's worth thinking through who makes these kinds of arguments and why.
We are edging close to an argument that all left public figures need to think like political strategists first, constantly measuring the impact of their work on the Democratic Party's electoral prospects. We saw that frame used against racial justice protesters in 2020-22; Gaza protesters in 2024.
Everyone, as Coates acknowledges, thinks that politicians need to win more voters. Obama and Harris can't sound like Coates. Coates agrees! But Klein argues that political culture (so the writing of people like Coates) shapes politicians and hints Coates should be mindful of that.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...
