Important correction! – this is literature *about* Charlemagne (i.e. the Charlemagne legends), rather than Carolingian (as in 9th c. & before) period literature.

This is an #almanac, a printed calendar. This genre was from the sixteenth-century onward produced in high quantities and reached very large audiences. These almanacs were a characteristic part of the contemporary media ensemble, as #mediahistory and #bookhistory knows.
