It is is relevant when people who claim to want leftist political outcomes keep trying to build up right-wingers who will seek to prevent/roll back those outcomes. Whether those people are Democrats or not, they’re either being dishonest or gullible, and they’re counter-productive.

Small. I’m fairly certain the origin of the phrase is for Halloween candy bars that are obviously less than a standard candy bar size. I can recall that as far back as the 80s when I was a kid. A short person describing themselves as fun-sized is much more recent (and still means small).

I missed something here. I thought it was already a done deal and baked into the CR that ended the shutdown, but it sounds like it didn’t go through. Good to hear it, and yes, absolutely insane to think they could just pay themselves a bonus for their role in a coup attempt.

Cmon, the real New York Times wouldn’t have writers who don’t actually live in Ne…no…wait…

Yes, this does a better job mirroring the original quote.

“Your think calling attention to problematic behaviors will help? That pales in comparison to my strategy of shutting down the government until the GOP agrees to bundle ACA subsidies with the CR” - Chuck Schumer

A lot of people have observed that the Democrats’ deep unpopularity comes from the fact that absolutely everyone wants to complain about them and nobody wants to defend them.

This is true, but a lot of THAT dynamic comes from the fact that Dems are regularly punching their supporters in the face!

I think we’re talking about different things, and maybe that’s because I missed the point of the person Will quote tweeted, but saying “Trump isn’t really that much worse than Reagan” is a fundamentally different point than “Trump isn’t that much worse than Harris, so I won’t vote for either.”

Apparently you were ignoring fascism while using the fake threat of fascism to try to scare lefties into voting. Smart lefties who took the threat of fascism seriously sat out the election because something something something uniparty. Like your motives weren’t pure enough to count or something.

It does seem like the most likely way they’ll try to rig 2026 elections after the gerrymandering. Declare an emergency, federalize the national guard, send them into major cities to detain and delay.

Yeah, you have to take the steak out of the microwave and keep going with the potato.

If fairness to the Reddit poster, the Hollywood trope of hearing a number once and being able to dial it again from memory much later always struck me as a bridge too far on believability even in the 80s and 90s.

This is a deep fake, right? Like, somebody is doing a NYTPitchbot style bit complete with fake video?

Sure, but #2 doesn’t rule out that there are members of the administration filling that #1 role. Maybe it’s all a big house of cards that will collapse when Dems retake Congress, but I think it’s more likely that with SCOTUS’ blessing, they’ve permanently added more obstacles to effecting governing.
