Why does hold music sound like it's being played at 8kHz on a boombox across the room from a microphone? It's 2025 and this is embarrassing, or perhaps more likely, a psyop to demoralize you before you speak to a representative. 🫠

I'd never previously seen this creature when there's an error in the Steam client, but I kind of love his befuddled look. Like, "We're not supposed to be seeing each other."

Something I don’t think I’ll ever understand and will have to ascribe to both generational and personality gaps is making friends’ birthdays into “content,” broadcast birthday wishes over Instagram stories instead of surely more personal direct contact that might even lead to…a conversation. 🫣

I have a cloud I need to yell at: I cannot stand that the word “insane” has pretty much just become synonymous with “really good.” IG brain rot.

Bonus points when it’s paired up with another co-opted classic to form “literally insane,” meaning nothing coming anywhere close to “literally insane.”

It's been 20 years today since Steve Jobs gave this Stanford commencement address, and not mark the anniversary, Stanford has provided a higher quality version than we've seen previously. It's a great speech, and worth watching if you have never seen it, or it's been a while.

The year is 2035, and the internet is now just entirely videos of people eating food in their cars.

This is a good representation of one of the things I hate about Instagram: the way it superimposes its shit over content, blocking your view, or in this case, your ability to interact with the content the way it was intended. Try clicking that link without activating the text box.

A recent event made me consider how—given our society’s geographic dispersion that’s really increased over the last 100 years, and advances in technology that have changed the ways we communicate—our last-ever interactions with people, even those pretty close to us, will be through a screen.

Git turned 20 today. As someone who started out using CVS, I still kind of see Git as the “new kid” that took over everything.

You probably don’t think about magnetic tapes, which means they’re doing their job remarkably well.
Century+ duration electronic data preservation is in fact an unsolved problem, but magnetic tapes set read-only are as close as we have right now. This is a massive, active research problem at Amazon, Google, Microsoft, others. www.microsoft.com/en-us/resear... Some tape can be replaced, not all.

Why do food instagrammers need to squeeze their food and squish the innards out? Is that appetizing?

NYT Cooking, did you really implement the "New Folder" functionality in the saved recipe screen so pops up a modal dialog, but _does not put the focus on the text field_? After clicking the button, I need to manually move the pointer and click the text field. C'mon, guys, this is day one shit.

From a WSJ article I saw today:

"Some 28% of new-car buyers favor buttons over touch screens, according to a 2022 survey from Escalent, a consulting firm."

I refuse to believe that there are more people who favor a horrible touch screen in a car than actual controls. Who brainwashed these people?
