As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

I used to try to avoid posting about politics too much, because I know people followed me for art and comic stuff.

But politics are affecting my ability to exist and create art, so I'm going to keep posting about politics until it gets better.

As an autistic parent of three autistic children… thank you so much for posting this!!
Today is Retraction Day, when we observe the anniversary of the retraction (Feb. 2, 2010) of the fraudulent paper that purported to show a link between vaccines and autism. 🧪#medsky

Genuine question: is there any authorization, anything at all, for a so-called Department of Government Efficiency? an executive order? Anything?

Is anyone working for that “department” a government employee? Or is it just a straight up private sector takeover?

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Enter Dorothy B. Porter 🧵

Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as “under review”. Truly sickening cowardice here.

Forever pissed that I have to be Aware and Informed instead of reading science fiction and fantasy and writing stories.

I'm a children's literature critic, not an expert on government!

Hey, BlueSky geniuses: Has anyone yet made a starter pack of Canadian thought leaders, public intellectuals, journalists, and progressive activists, scientists, economists et al that we could all follow and open lines of communication with?

I think that would be popular. And is deeply needed.

Today in US History: On Feb. 3, 1870, the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, granted black men the right to vote. It was passed by Congress on February 26, 1869. Black Americans were set free by the 13th amendment. The 14th Amendment guaranteed citizenship.

Canadian MP Charlie Angus: So here’s how it’s going to go down—this is going to be very rough. But the big wake-up call is for our American friends.

For example, Kentucky—the number one purchaser of Kentucky spirits in the world is Canada, and all our provinces have just pulled it off the shelves.

In 1771, historian Catherine Macaulay burned herself out so badly writing the fifth volume of her recent history of England that she spent four months eating ice cream and bathing in the sea to recuperate.

Writers, I present to you your role model.

#Kidlit illustrators, remember that you're telling stories.

Be sure your portfolio includes at least 1 example of storytelling across multiple pieces, as if your illustrations were spreads from a book.

This is called sequential art, & it's important to show off! ✨

Read up on what Caster Semenya endured. Her body was violated. Her career torn apart. So she set out to destroy the lives of those who victimised her.

Oh no, wait, she poured herself into uplifting and supporting young athletes; wrote a powerful memoir and has remained unapologetically herself.
