I feel it's connected to a sadistic pleasure to know artists have suffered and we get to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Even the biggest artists in history died poor. I suppose they're not really waiting for us to die anymore.
But we'll find a way. Keep creating, for yourself and for us.

I will never understand those who say life’s woes creates great artists. The worst depressive episode of my life led me to stop creating. I have genuinely not been able to get that creative spirit back since.

Reminds me of the late great David Lynch’s quote about the myth of suffering and art: “The more the artist is suffering the less creative he is going to be. It's less likely that he is going to enjoy his work and less likely that he will be able to do really good work”

A brain in survival mode is not in a position to create good art. I wish more people understood that.

People look at the music during the 60s and just assume that's what will happen.

I don't remember a ton of artists releasing a ton of protest songs during Trump's first run.

Anypony who argues that mass suffering is good for art should be forced to go back to Twitter so we can see if the constant harassment, bullshit, and abuse will get them to write better posts.

People create more when their lives are stable and they are happy and therefore, able to sit down and focus on being creative because they don't have to worry about Every Other Little Thing. People under extreme stress are much less likely to do that because they have other things to prioritize.

"Things might be tough but it's great for artists! They'll create more!" You might not believe me but going through a lifetime's worth of stress Every Single Week for years and years- is actually not the optimal set of circumstances that inspires artists to create
