This post reminds me of how nutrient-dense dates are. My aunt always eats dates because it is packed with fiber and magnesium! I'm sure it has additional essential minerals and vitamins and they are yummy!

That is so interesting! I shared a similar popular press article that also mentions vitamin D and how its recommended pairing it with vitamin K2.
#beh353
A recent study suggests vitamin D₃ supplements (about 2,000 IU daily) may help slow cellular aging by protecting telomeres, which shorten with age. Researchers note benefits are modest and work best alongside a healthy lifestyle.

I enjoyed reading this short article! It ties up with the topic of supplements that we are covering this week. It highlights the benefits and how and when to intake some supplements/vitamins.

I really appreciate this post. In a perfect world, people would see food as both fuel for our health goals and a way to connect with people and cultures, while creating memories along the way. It’s all about finding that balance. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
food is just fuel” is a popular saying in the fitness world - and sure, food can be fuel, but it can also be so much more.

food can be a way to connect with other people, cultures, and our memories.

you don’t have to moralize foods or punish yourself for enjoying them.

Creating a food recall is so easy and part of my routine since I'm used to tracking my macros.
sourdough bread sandwich (eggs/egg white/turkey bacon), grilled chicken things with potatoes, corn salad, cottage cheese lemon cheesecake, steak with potatoes.

I enjoyed reading this post! Especially since it was mentioned in class the fact that the American diet requires increased fiber consumption- legumes, whole grains, fruits, nuts...
Fiber intake is extremely important.

Protein is a macronutrient that we need to consume daily b/c it is the building block for muscle building, maintenance, metabolic reactions, and weight loss.
fun fact about protein is that there are complete proteins (has all crucial amino acids needed) & incomplete.

I completely agree with you! I will also remind myself of that, but that is "easier" for us students with health literacy. We have a better understanding of the phrase correlation does not equal causation. I feel for most people who are not aware of this fact and rely on 100% on popular press.
When reading nutrition articles, I plan on keeping in mind that causation does not necessarily relate to correlation. Although some findings seem as though they may be directly related, often times the findings do not correlate to the outcome or evidence.

This post is a perfect example of what we are discussing in class this week. The idea that popular press and now the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are using propaganda and not fact checked information to fit their agenda.
#BEH353
HHS is putting out bizarre propaganda on the other site about the nutrient density of butter and beef tallow. Have genuinely only seen these claims from wellness influencers and butter promoting websites.

When reading nutrition resources I will evaluate press release claims (popular press) attached to the study. I believe that most journalists are likely to change scientific findings/report to better fit their desired narrative. Fact checking is essential for learning.

Hi! I'm Laura, my major is health psychology.
I needed a BEH course and also because I love learning about nutrition.
Q:Are most food labels accurate, if not how are we to trust the food we constantly eat?
Healthy eating is enjoying every food with moderation.
