Paeds reg, prehistory and plague nerd, book fiend, always indignant about something. Usually some kind of representative. Irish (heavy on the “ish”) European in the UK. She/her.
The Secret Barrister’s done a thriller! And an excellent one. Five stars. Audiobook is excellent!

On 7th Oct 2023, Hamas brutally murdered 1200 Israelis, including women and children.

Since then, the Israeli government has killed over 60,000 people in Gaza.

Israel's own figures say 83% have been civilians.

Disproportionate numbers of journalists, medics & children have been killed.

Mariam, along with four other Palestinian journalists, was killed in Nasser hospital yesterday.

Devastating.

Mariam frequently worked with @msf.org.

Here is some of her exceptional and harrowing work curated by @apnews.com :

Today’s book recommendation: one day everyone will have always been against this, by Omer El Akkad. If you get the audiobook it’s read by the author. An important read.

It’s changeover day when the doctors start/move jobs, so here’s a belated reminder of this gem from @drphiliplee1.bsky.social #MedSky

people (including children) deserve food, nourishment, warmth, comfort and shelter. having complex medical needs doesn’t make this any less of a requirement. this poor child, this poor mother. if what you took away from this is “it’s misleading because he has cerebral palsy” then you’re the problem

Saturday Night so I’m… living it up with a book
Come what May by @lucygobag.bsky.social
My mum: “Lucy easthope’s new book is out!”
Me: “I know, it’s arrived. I’ll bring it to you this summer when I come over”
My mum: “any copy that comes here isn’t leaving, just so you know, I’m keeping it”

It really feels like the world is going to the dogs right now. Gaza, Syria, Sudan, Ukraine; the US sliding into fascism and dictatorship; the regressive UK Supreme Court judgment on our trans friends and colleagues.
Speak up where you can, donate to relevant charities, support your fellow humans

Tomorrow is #WorldDownSyndromeDay! The 21st day of the 3rd month, aa people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of chromosome 21 instead of 2. We wear “lots of socks” to celebrate. Bright, funky, mismatched (not odd!), because different is good, and because chromosomes look a bit like socks 😊

A book review! Poor, by Katriona O’Sullivan.
I wish that every teacher, doctor, social worker, every adult in a position of responsibility who’s ever been unkind to a struggling child, every kid who’s ever bullied a kid like Katriona, would read it and feel shame.
And then take action to do better

Hello! Let’s see how this works then. I’m more of a lurker on this sort of social media anyway, so I’ll hang around and enjoy everyone’s tweets. Oh and recommend me a book!
