The repetitive movement (gentle, not gym-speed!) and focus on the activity is a much easier way to achieve hypnosis for someone who enjoys movement but struggles with physical relaxation.

Active alert hypnosis uses focused activity to take someone into a hypnotic state. Some hypnotists who have used this have a treadmill or exercise bike in their office but I have just asked clients to walk on the spot.

One client reported:
❝ I was able to sit in the window, watch and enjoy the fireworks going off all around us and I felt safe, I could control my panic and anxiety and keep it in check to enjoy it. ❞

I have worked with several people on their fear of fireworks, using a mixture of hypnotherapy, EFT and EMDR. Most of them have found it easier to be around fireworks since their sessions.

There are so many conflicting opinions and stories that it's tiring to analyse and try and find the truth in them. So it can be easy to look for one strong voice that seems to offer a simple solution. It seems to me that there are rarely simple solutions to complex problems.

That technique is great for making positive change in a hypnosis session but it can of course have a negative effect in our world of constant information.

Then the session can continue, finding ways to create a positive outcome, whether that's changing a thought, feeling or habit or simply finding relaxation and calmness.

By giving the brain a lot of things to think about it becomes overloaded and eventually being given the option of following simple instructions from the hypnotist to focus on just one thing becomes a welcome relief.

It's something that I often use if someone has a really busy mind and they find it difficult to relax or their mind keeps wandering.

I have to add this to my list of explanations 😄
