my favorite mug from the last round of glaze firings :3 i love the way this floating blue ended up interacting with the throwing rings

A very round handmade mug, held aloft by the handle. It’s short and stout, and glazed in a floating blue that breaks to amber over the throwing rings on the outside of the body. The opposite side of the same mug. Here the glaze doesn’t break as much, but the blue pigment has settled satisfyingly along the throwing rings The mug tilted to reveal its interior. The settling of the floating blue glaze reveals a swirl in the center of the bottom.

this mug was the biggest surprise of the firing - the glaze came out matte and super opaque, there’s actually pink under the turquoise (not that you can see it)!

the first of my mugs from the previous round of firings. this glaze combination was a nightmare to work with, and i could tell it was going to be problematic before the firing; but i didn’t expect the huge, inexplicable bare patch, nor the extremely smooth matte finish.

The glaze has a smooth, matte texture with the occasional speck of warmer rust-colored pigment. The other side of the same mug, revealing a much more dramatic surface with more speckling and running of pigment, as well as a large bare patch on the outside where glaze refused to stay. Mug tilted towards the camera to reveal its insides, which has a smooth and even finish and a well-defined transition between the bottom and the walls. Another view, emphasizing the curved form of the mug and its flared out rim.

having participated in tboy wrestling portland through to its conclusion now, i am, to put it mildly, deeply dissatisfied with how the event is run. i hate to commit the crime of vagueposting, but i’m still gathering my thoughts about it.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.
Rude Rude or impolite, including crude language and disrespectful comments, without constructive purpose. Highlighted Off, darkened Warn, and darkened Hide buttons.

my second-ever mug finally made it out of the kiln! it’s so cool to see these first few forms i threw finally becoming functional objects

A handmade mug. It’s wide, with a curved pulled handle, and a slightly uneven rim betrays the maker’s inexperience with trimming. The top half of the mug has walls that bow out ever so slightly, while the bottom half tapers inward at a fairly straight angle. The foot and rim reveal the plain off-white clay body, while the rest of the mug is coated in pink glaze with a light blue layered over top, reminiscent of the colors of the trans flag.

i’ve been really enjoying ceramics - it’s an entirely different realm of working with my hands, but the tasks are satisfying and peaceful. my friends are going to be getting so many mugs soon
