Just got hold of my dear friend @asiyaislam.bsky.social’s book, based on her brilliant research on female service workers in India. Can’t wait to dive in!

Securing survivors’ memories of #Hiroshima is increasingly urgent, amid a new era of nuclear brinkmanship. The horrifying truth is that the 9 nuclear states have *already* amassed the equivalent firepower of 145.000 Hiroshima bombs. This madness has to stop

As hard as it is to feel anything but gloom these days, I’m pleased to see this book out with @CambridgeUP—fantastic chapters by brilliant historians, plus a small contribution from me and Dr Can Nacar. A must-read for your Ottoman, global, world & ME history courses

Bugün nimetlerinden faydalandığımız her türlü kamusal iyilik (eğitimden ve sağlıktan tutun kanun önünde eşitliğe) zamanında ilkesel bir duruş sergilemiş, bedel ödemiş alturistik bireyler ve topluluklar sayesinde var. Hepimiz siyasetin ekmeğini yiyoruz. Apolitiklik asalaklıktır.

With so many uncertainties and anxieties surrounding our work these days, I’m incredibly grateful to this generous student and all the others who take the time to show appreciation for our courses and teaching. This nomination truly made my day.

Scary things are happening in Turkey right now. With the arrest of the major rival of Erdogan this morning, the regime is declaring its full transition into authoritarianism. I fear for the future.

Today, Shane O’Neill, our interim Principal announced the University of Dundee needs to cut 632 jobs to be financially sustainable.

Also there are 237 vacancies (in part due to the recruitment freeze since Nov).

That’s 870 colleagues from 3200. OVER A QUARTER!

The UK’s universities are beleaguered and besieged. Redundancies continue to be announced. Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Kent, Queen’s Belfast, Sheffield; the list goes on and on. Perhaps 10,000 jobs will go in this academic year, and that’s just the beginning. #AcademicSky

X banned a Turkish journalist’s account because the Turkish government wanted it to. His posts can no longer be seen from Turkey. The journalist was publishing open source documents about ongoing trade relations between Turkey and Israel (therefore exposing the govt.’s hypocrisy about Palestine)

Is it just me, or is it not far more terrifying that the deaths of all those babies were due to significant deficiencies in the healthcare system (e.g., substandard care, lack of staff, etc.)?!

This article underestimates the number of job losses (already reported elsewhere to have exceeded 10,000) and employs the misleading adjective 'leading' universities (meaning what, to whom?), but if you've been living under a rock and need a quick introduction to the topic, you could start here.
